    No they dont, I think because they know they have 3 death saves up their sleeve, plus healing word if things get genuinely dangerous.

    Yes I find the game is far too easy with whack-a-mole going on. That's my main issue. Yes, I know I can have monsters beat on down PCs, but for me that isnt believable in many instances - if the monsters are still being threatened by active characters, they dont have time to hit downed ones...

    I dont mind the "gain a level of exhaustion" solution, but it is quite severe at low levels once you hit level 3!

    So here's the idea to fix whack-a-mole: If you're 1 hp or above, cure spells are instant. If hp 0 or below, cure spells take 1d3 minutes to work before the target is healed. No more whack-a-mole? What do folks think?

A better approach imo - is to use a formal Party Retreat rule (with a cost), in conjunction with an improvised Chases rule, which then frees the GM up to simply throw whatever makes sense...

    Many adventures can't be time limited (or, at least, cant in an open world style game). Edit: also, readying an action doesnt work - just dont have your owl help in any round the target doesnt use his action - owl lives, and your opponent simply loses their turn - even better!
