    Urban Adventuring

I think this is completely a meta-game issue. If you've got a group of players playing at the same time, fun cannot be had if they aren't mostly doing the same thing at the same time, verisimilitude be damned. Single character scenarios should be banned outright, unless you're willing to do some...

My D&D Game would suffer without Anime!!!!

There's no "forcing" going on- there's a huge difference between being influenced by anime and trying to emulate it exactly. The influence being discussed here involves story-lines and characterizations, and doesn't effect D&D game mechanics one way or the other.

D&D 3.x Conceptual Problems with 3E/3.5E and Desired Solutions for 4E

Agreed. I don't know what the solution is, but LA/ECL is my least favorite 3.x mechanic.

Do you agree with WotC selling errata?

I disagree with the way the question is framed, because the products in question are not errata, even if they contain updated information.

Wizard of the Coast Updated Product Listing!

I don't understand your rant. In order to remain a functioning company, WoTC has to keep publishing stuff- there's no way around it. All you have to do as a customer is buy the stuff that looks interesting to you and not buy the stuff that doesn't. Not a big deal, in my opinion.

Submachine Gun & Sorcery-Modern Technology in DnD

If you're interested in adding tech to D&D, definitely take a look at the out of print Dragonstar setting.

How easy is it to SELL magic items in your game?

In my games, at least, selling loot is what the characters do for a living. So unless I've got a specific adventure hook in mind, it all happens "off screen" at a flat 50% rate. The only restriction I place is that they need to be able to devote a sufficient amount of time to the activity.

Financial Grants for gaming groups from WOTC?

It just says that the "primary focus" must be D&D, not that it can be the only game played. Seems to me like pretty much any official college gaming group could apply for this.

    Gen Con Indy Improvements!

Same here. The gaming rooms were so noisy in 2005 that I didn't bother to sign up for any RPG events in 2006.

    What's gonna happen with Miko?

"Good" will triumph in the end wether Miko turns evil or not, because she isn't a protagonist in this story. To use your own analagy, Miko turning evil wouldn't be any different that Saruman turing evil- it's just another obstacle for real good guys to overcome.

    Save My Game

In a world governed by D&D rules, the PCs are the tools available to the city to deal with these threats. This is the niche filled by adventurers- without them, the city is toast. If the city can handle threats on its own, the players might as well pack up and go home.

    Save My Game

One answer for this is to have the city government inform the PCs that they've been conscripted into service, and it's specifically the PC's job, not the City Watch's, to deal with these situations. The job even comes with a small monthly stipend. After this, if the PC continue to ask for...

    D20 Modern Vehicle Miniatures

There used to a cool line of 25mm paper car models on rpg.now called Bargain Wheels. They aren't there anymore, and I don't know why. When put togther, they did seem a bit small unless you imagined the miniature leaving it's base standing in a more natural position. The author noted that the...

    Who attends GenCon?

I've gone every year 1994-98 and 2002-2006, and plan to go again this year. Going to Gen Con has changed a lot for me over the years. In the 90's, it'd be a group of friends all sharing one hotel room, and funds were always limited. Now days I share a room with only my wife, and spend...

amazon: Confessions of a Part-time Sorceress: A Hip Girl's Guide to the D&D Game

Based on what? Dictionary.com has "used with an indefinite singular antecedent in place of the definite masculine he or the definite feminine she" as a definition of they. I agree that "they" is annoying because it's internally inconsistent with how the language works, but it's hard to be...

    Mac based mapping applications?

On my older 12" Powerbook, Dundjini was so slow that it wasn't worth using, but on my newer MacBook it runs just fine. There was a gap between trying it on the two separate computers, so I'm not sure if the OS X java implementation improved, if the Mac version of Dundjini improved, or if it was...

amazon: Confessions of a Part-time Sorceress: A Hip Girl's Guide to the D&D Game

Problem is, nothing that self-identifies as "hip" can possibly be so. I think this is a poor approach for a role-playing book- there's nothing as pathetic as something geeky trying to pretend like it's not.

    Rpgnow creditcard information stolen

Look at this way- I'm buying something from tinynicheshop.com, which I've never heard of before the google search I just did. I can either give these people -who I know absolutely nothing about and have no reason to trust- my credit card number, or I can pay with paypal, which I've used...

Cool Uses of Music During Gaming

Last session, I started running DCC #34: Cage of Delirium, which comes with a Midnight Syndicate CD and instructions to play certain tracks for certain encounters. While the CD works great as general background music, trying to key the tracks to encounters turned out to be a huge hassle, and I...

    Making game tiles?

There's dundjinni: http://www.dundjinni.com/ It's got a clunky interface and the default tileset isn't very good, but it works pretty well once you get used to it. Of course, making tiles good as SKG depends as much on your ability as it does the software you use.
