That sounds like a good argument against using Planescape as a core cosmology. Something more more accessible and dependable is exactly what the 4e designers decided to go with.

To me, "far side" of the city is confirmation that the shape hasn't changed. I agree that both the wording and the map are confusing. It almost seem like they decided to enclose Sigil, but kept the description ambiguous in the hope that no one would notice.

I doubt there will be any continuity at all between 4e Sigil and pre-4e Sigil. To do that, they'd have to explain what happened to the Great Wheel.

To be honest, at the "campaign" level, 4e isn't any different from any other edition of D&D for me. It's not like I could run a certain type of campaign in one version, but not the others. I freely convert 1e and 2e modules to 4e just like I did with 3e.

I like the set, but think it doesn't include enough buildings. You can't create much of a "street" scene with just 3 buildings.

There's also the Harry Potter approach- no one but the PC's even believes that the threat exists! Of course, this doesn't work as well when the protagonists aren't children.

I agree with Ruin Explorer. WotC's best option is to just make sure that the new content added each month is compelling enough to convince new subscribers to stick around. Cumbersome restrictions regarding back-content would be full of fail.

There are plenty of people who have as many commitments as the OP - or more - but still find time to game with out neglecting them. It's not that you don't have time to game, it's that you choose to spend your time doing something else. Which is fine, of course.

If it's just as easy to come up with an explanation that makes sense, why insist on one that doesn't?
