Review DCC 53: Sellswords of Punjar

I'll be running this on Saturday. Aside from the awesome battlemap and the 4e statblocks, it sticks very closely to the way previous DCC's have been presented.

Has 4e caused a great rift between gamers?

Only 2 viable versions of D&D, huh? We had considerably more than that before 4e and Pathfinder came around- especially if 3rd party variants like Pathfinder can be classified as D&D.

Forked Thread: Compare FRCS4e to other Settings

The book is called the "Campaign Guide," actually. Maybe the name was changed to reflect the change in focus.

    D&DI: The Price is Right

To me, the print Dungeon was a big sea of 'meh' with a few really good standouts here and there. So far, the online Dungeon is looking to be about the same.

Anyone else excited for Dungeon Delve?

I like the idea of the book. But I'm not excited, because it could be good, bad, or meh depending on the quality of the scenarios. It's too soon to know.

How do you feel about WOTC, the 3PP and the intent of the GSL

I don't feel strongly about it either way. If I come across a third party 4e product that looks interesting and useful to me, I'll buy it. I bought plenty of 3rd party 3e stuff. But at the same time, WoTC produces more than enough products on it's own to keep me busy playing D&D. My game would...

    A flaw in the system

We've added a house rule that if you attempt a daily and miss, you can spend an action point to regain the power.

Forked Thread: Goodman IS going GSL!

I don't think they need to specify this. The GSL describes the ways you can use their trademarks, so if the GSL doesn't describe putting the logo on the front cover then you can't do it. The GSL FAQ does specifically state that the logo can only be on the back cover or the legal page. EDIT: I...

Forked Thread: Goodman IS going GSL!

In which case, they're still better off moving to 4e, because the half that moved to 4e has a greater need for new adventures than the half that stuck with 3e. I'm an example of this- I'd long since stopped buying 3e DCCs because the last thing I needed was yet another 3e adventure. But now...

Forked Thread: Goodman IS going GSL!

So far, the marketing has clearly labeled the 4e adventures as Dungeon Crawl Classics, even though the cover layout is different. I'm guessing he's going with the sell-out stock plan (except that several have a September release, which is cutting it pretty close.) This discontinuation of the 3e...

Intro adventure in DMG: Too difficult?

Two of four PCs fell to the dragon when I ran it. They would have all survived, but toward the end of the battle the dragon got a lucky breath weapon recharge, which resulted in two breath weapon critical hits.

    Dungeon Tiles - Photos

You've got to be willing to let the tile selection influence the maps you design to get the fullest use out of them. In this sense, they're slightly less useably for pre-made adventures, unless the adventure has been designed with Dungeon Tiles in mind.

    D&D 4E The problem with 4e

I've found that the best way to deal with posts like this is to not read them.

Forked Thread: Its the terminology that kills me...

Have you actually witnessed this? In my game so far, no one has referred to their character as anything besides it's race/class combo. Role names have only come up when discussing the design of the classes.

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

This is all I think D&D should do, because reaching any farther is an automatic failure. You've got to have a certain level of geekiness to be a potential gamer.

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

Why is any of this a problem?

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

D&D is not a game for non-geeks, and it never will be. It's funny to think that pretending to be one type of race is somehow less geeky than pretending to be another. For a non-gamer, it's all the same. Only those already steeped in gamer culture will see the difference.

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

I agree. My point is that of everything mentioned, it most closely resembles what Ruin Explorer was saying might drive a mainstream audience away from 4e. It's an example of "far out" fantasy with quite a bit of mainstream appeal.

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

Honestly, I don't think it's the non-human races (or lack of them) that make WoW, movies, and books more popular than table-top D&D. If your goal is to make D&D appeal to mainstream, non-gamer types, I think you're barking up the wrong tree. There are so many other factors, and this one does...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

Yeah, well I don't personal know anyone your age who plays D&D at all, so you obviously don't exist. But seriously, whenever it comes up, there doesn't seem to be any constancy at all regarding age and 4e opinion.
