My Grind Fix: Half hp, 2/3 Xp

And I guess that makes the outcome of the combat predictable for the players even sooner. There might be more monsters, but they do less damage each, so once a few is out of the way, it is just a matter of "mopping up the rest".. I guess the best solution is in fact to make them more "glass...

My Grind Fix: Half hp, 2/3 Xp

I haven't looked at the damage levels, but wouldn't using lower level monsters also mean you could add more monsters to an encounter (which I believe was the idea?). Then they might do less damage individually, but there would be more hits. Also, the variations/spikes in damage would be smaller...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

I don't know if it needs to be stepped up to keep it a challenge. People will work within their comfort level, so you can have both "regular" stuff (such as a feat progression which is the obvious choice here) and more exotic submissions. I suppose it also depends if you care about the amount of...

How do you cross-reference errata? (Forked from: Whats Errated that was Rogue Useful)

I use small post-it notes with the errata on, numbered if there should be more than one errata per double-page. Then I cut off a little box out of the sticky part of a post-it, and put it at the section of text with the corresponding number.

Wow Eric Finley - I really really like that. Very creative and cool.

    Class Overview - Powers

chitzk0i: I believe the idea was that we eventually would have a list for each tier (or each half-tier), so you can see what to expect from a specific class at each power level. It is not that CapnZapp doesn't want to read up on a few powers for each class, it is to give GM's in general (or...

    [NSFW] Darkvision: Three-Step Process

I'll bite. I've created a feat progression as well, since I found it hard to do a paragon path (though I suppose having three levels to reach count as steps as well?) Far-seer [Heroic tier] Benefit: You can see twice as far with a light source. Eagle Eyes [Paragon tier] Prerequisite: Far-Seer...

    A couple of Undead

I think the Consume Soul mechanic is very nice. It is a way of reducing the feeling the players might get when there is just a single opponent or two left - they know they've won, now they just need to actually "clean up". It makes the monster more dangerous the fewer allies it has left. I pity...

Adding some variety to treasure parcels

I really like that idea, but I have a question: How is this working in terms of time spent writing it down (by the players)? It is much easier to just write 110 gp on a sheet of paper than all the above. My players might be inclined to just ask for the price they can sell it for and then write...

    Hit, Miss, Or...

As far as I remember, the "Effect" line always occurs, no matter if it is a hit or a miss, so the monster would be dazed.

    Signature power for animated objects?

Hmm, I would like to make a leader type monster. Any suggestions for which type of furniture/object seems like a leader type? Bookcase mayhaps? I was considering a statue, but that may be intruding too much into Golem-land..

    Signature power for animated objects?

I was going to agree with you if you hadn't come up with the nice idea of a bonus to bluff and the "spring to life" power. Instead, the form of an object will "come to life" in the way they make their attack (for instance, a constricting rope).

Interesting traps for a temple devoted to greed?

A nice touch might be to have all traps bypassable by paying gold. So each time there is a trap, there is also a crack in the wall where gold can be put in. So for each trap you can "pay your way around it". They can even call it "pay as you go" :P You might also want to make something like a...

    Signature power for animated objects?

I thought about giving them a on-hit or on-death ability where they shatter, but I ran into a problem with ropes and rugs (and other soft items I may include) which I just can't explain properly (in-game).

Alternatives to the feat-tax solution to to-hit and F/R/W defenses

I think it is a very interesting idea however. Performing this change could remove some of the "stun-lock" on solo monsters (since the players won't know whether the monster will be able to act or not) and you can't stack the stuns. So players and monsters be unsure whether their target gets to...

Alternatives to the feat-tax solution to to-hit and F/R/W defenses

Since some people mentioned they would rather like to roll dice, here is the same system with dice instead of static bonuses: Paragon tier: +1d4 damage (average of 2.5, which is quite close to the lost damage of 2.25) Epic tier: +2d6 damage (average of 7, very close to the 7.05 lost damage)...

How important are item dailies, and item powers in general?

Asmor, I have recently made a progression for having no magic items. So instead of giving the players the items, you just give them the bonus. If you want, I can send it to you. I still want to hand out magical items once in a while (to make them special again), so I'll need to change the...

Stalker0's Obsidian Skill Challenge System (NEW VERSION: 1.2!!!)

The problem with players going in a set order is that player 3 might not be able to come up with something on the spot to fix what player 2 said, whereas the next player in line has a great idea. On the other hand, this simply serves to postprones the problem, as at some point the player has to...

Alternatives to the feat-tax solution to to-hit and F/R/W defenses

I actually did some quick calculations (even though my math-fu isn't what it used to be), and came up with the idea of adding the damage lost from NAD attacks to AC attacks. I've heard several people say that ordinary attacks against AC aren't as dangerous as being affected by effects, so as...
