"Math glitch" -- explanation or pointer?

The other problem with the latter is that if characters miss with a set up power that provides an attack bonus or drops enemy defenses in the first place, then the PC lose a huge chunk of potential damage. Most powers require that you get lucky and hit in the first place to get the bonus...

"Math glitch" -- explanation or pointer?

The problem there is that's a negative feedback loop. The lower the base chance to hit, the less likely it is that the leader hits with the attack bonus power. So that bonus comes up less and less, even if it is big. And encounter set up powers are completely wasted if they miss in almost all...

    Primal Power Discussion

It seems to me that Ragebloods gave up NADs for more damage over Thaneborns, but with the Hide Expertise and other CON based feats, they get similar overall defenses because of their great AC but retain their damage edge.

    4E Class Survivor - Round 12

Yeah, I'd agree that the avenger has some issues. Ironically, it seems to me like an avenger would often want off discipline powers. If you're a pursuit avenger, taking pursuit powers is just too much. You don't need to punish them twice for moving away; they're not going to do it too often...

How much Gold are monsters supposed to ave ?

Plus your gold goes a lot farther at lower levels. Plate armor is 50 gp instead of over a thousand; and even basic magic items can be had for several hundred gp.

[Forked from 4e Class Survivor] Why no Leader love?

Yeah, I don't get it either. IME, Leaders make a huge difference in play. And while they might not be everyone's cup of tea, I don't see how they all got dropped before stinkers like the warlock, druid, etc.

    D&D 4E Two Camps of 4e Players (a rant)

Maybe it's just me, but the game in which you solve for the radius of a hemispherical volume of 33k feet to get the size of a fireball cast against the ground seems a lot more complex than one where you print out the powers your character has.

D&D 4E Should spellcasters still be priority targets in 4e?

Well, tactically speaking, probably not a whole lot. Of course, most encounters are stacked against the monsters anyway, so in a sense the goal more 'vex the PCs as much as possible before death' than win.'' But strikers generally have just as many surges as controllers and seem less likely to...

D&D 4E Should spellcasters still be priority targets in 4e?

I tend to think that leaders are the best targets, followed by exposed strikers. Some defenders are also attractive people to spike out - the cost to attack the defender is generally much lower than other characters, and some types of defenders can suffer a lot from a spike (others not so...

Spells which were not properly nerved...

Planeshift seemed like it could still be used as deadly attack. Blasphemy/Holyword/etc still work the same, including the brutal power when combined with caster level boosts. Harm looked pretty much the same too.

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Is it evidence that new editions don't need to be that different?

I thought that used a tweaked version of someone else's system. Making it more like a company releasing a d20 version of their game, and then going to back to their normal product line.

    arkham horror strategies?

Well, sure. But even in non-ideal situations, some Elder Gods are often best fought by beating them up instead of sealing. Plus, often times it doesn't really matter what you'd like to do, you MUST do certain things. For example, some skill checks are so bad that failure will knock you out...

    arkham horror strategies?

Joe Diamond is pretty good if you're going to fight the Elder God instead of sealing gates. Once upon a time, we had Joe dump around 10 clue tokens with his special ability AND the fight skill (so 3 dice per clue), while armed with a shotgun and supported by Mandy. He didn't quite one shot the...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder: Is it evidence that new editions don't need to be that different?

Actually, most new editions aren't that different. Champions/HERO has made fairly incremental changes over 6 editions. CoC new editions are more like reprints with errata AFAIK. GURPS changes aren't that big either, IIRC (but they're not insignificant). Etc.

    6 Monsters vs 6 PCs

PCs will usually have better synergies between each other than the monsters, so each additional PC tends to help them more unless the monsters are carefully selected to work together well.

    arkham horror strategies?

It's usually better to seal gates, especially in the most frequent locations, than to simply close them. There are two real exceptions: 1: you're close to losing on open gates, and 2: the investigators are going to win soon, and you want to increase your own score to become 1st Citizen. :)...

4e characters vs 3e characters. In Combat!

IME, 4e characters are lot less powerful, especially compared to their opposition, next to 3.x characters. Kobolds and goblins are cleave fodder in 3.5, but fairly comparable to PCs inside an encounter (PCs of course have far more healing surges per day) in 4e. When our group was first making...

Best of the Best - TWF Ranger.

Longtooth shifters work well going into Pitfighter at paragon. That's a lot more spike damage, so it can really work well if you someone in the party setting you up with frequent attack buffs (like a tac lord or melee cleric) so that damage buff kicks in on multiple hits per round. Dex based...

    Space Alert

This game sounds pretty cool from everything I've read so far - here and on BGG. Too bad it's basically going to head to head against Pegasus for our gaming dollar.
