D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

The first two are part of Ysgard, with Jotenheim being a realm within the first layer and Muspelheim being the plane's second layer. Niflheim is the second layer of the Gray Wastes (of Hades).

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

With the caveat that I am nowhere near enough of a Dragonlance lore expert to truly know how disruptive of a change this would be, I like the idea of the three robe colors as indicators of philosophical outlook (possibly reflected in the teachings of the each of the three magic moon gods)...

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Honestly, from a worldbuilding perspective, I think both the Dragonlance High Sorcery white/red/black robe classifications and the Star Wars Light Side/Dark Side divide would benefit greatly from being decoupled from the Good-Evil spectrum.

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

Aasimar, Soul Knife, and Psy Warrior have all been through rounds of UA before and published in previous books - their popularity is established. The question is "Do these options have support?", and they already know the answer is "Yes", so the need for additional playtest feedback is...

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

Oh, I certainly don't expect them to be sneakily slipped into the PHB under a new name - they didn't even ask about "half-elves", "half-orcs", or the "pick-a-parent" system in the UA survey. At best, they might make it into the DMG as examples of how to use a (hypothetical) species trait...

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

So far as I am aware, the only time they've said anything on the subject is when they were doing videos for the first UA packet on character origins, where they introduced the "pick-a-parent" system to cover all mixed-ancestry characters and stated "half-elves" and "half-orcs" would not be...

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

I do not claim to do so. If I have ever given the impression that I think I do, then I wholeheartedly apologize. The proposed "pick-a-parent" system works for you. Great! By all means, use it. I have no issue with WotC keeping it in as an option, even the default option. What I take issue with...

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

My concerns have nothing to do with how things work at my specific table. I can handle that just fine, with or without WotC. My concerns are the worldbuilding implications that "pick-a-parent" creates (What happens to Khoravar, Jhor'guntaal, and the three mixed Dragonmarked Houses the next time...

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

"Our setting has three moons... What possible use would we have for the most iconic monster tied to the lunar cycle?" - Weiss and Hickman, probably

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

Which is fine, considering that they can now just play orcs. That cannot be said for people who want to be able to keep playing "half-orcs" as their own thing.

D&D 5E (2014) Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks Would Like To Explore Kara-Tur

There are people who would like to see updated versions of old settings, just as there are people who want to see new settings. These can even be the same people.

Wizards Goes Big with Vecna: Eve of Ruin

Sure, but that applies to anything. You can swap out Vecna or the Rod of Seven Parts, if you're willing to rewrite the entire book.

D&D General What it means for a race to end up in the PHB, its has huge significance

There was no process before because everything they designed to be playable was given its own bespoke mechanics. Want to play an elf? Pick an elf. Want to play a dwarf? Pick a dwarf. Want to play a Khoravar? Pick a "half-elf". Want to play a lupinal? Er, we don't have "monster PC" mechanics in...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

I meant complaints about the Van Richten's version. Curse of Strahd opened the door to getting a proper 5e Ravenloft setting revival, even if many old-school Ravenloft are rather vocally unhappy with what ultimately came of it. I happen to be quite happy with Van Richten's myself, though I...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

For all the complaints 5e Ravenloft gets from old-school Ravenloft fans, Curse of Strahd's success is what opened the door to us getting Van Richten's down the road - I'd even argue it may well have kickstarted the entire "classic settings revival" effort that got us 5e Spelljammer, Dragonlance...
