D&D General The Dragon Queen's Consorts (Lore question)

The only consort of Tiamat that comes to mind is Ephelomon, the red consort that the warlord Gith negotiated with in the distant past to forge a pact granting her people, the githyanki, the service of red dragons, but he's been dead (or at least gone) for a LONG time. Don't know that there's...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

It's not really "gone", just deemphasized. There's no cant dictionary like older editions had, but it's mentioned in a few places that some people talk in a kind of planar slang and one of the first NPCs the characters run into after getting out of the Mortuary in Turn of Fortune's Wheel curses...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

With the caveat that this is generally something I've been brainstorming from the perspective of a DM (or possibly a writer), I've been working on a Planescape conversion of Dragon Heist for a while now set in a post-Faction War version of Sigil (both because the idea predates the 5e Planescape...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

Even then, it still incorporates some elements from Faction War - the Undersigil hideaway of Nowhere (and, more broadly, the region of Undersigil itself) came from FW, and the mysterious "oldest barmy" Gifad makes an appearance in one of the tables for the Prison (extra ironic that he's in the...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

And still are... Unless you were around while they in print or really luck out with third-party resellers, the only (legitimate) way to get (most of) the 2e Planescape books for a reasonable price these days is via DMsGuild. Does DMsGuild get an "accessibility" pass that Beyond does not? Sure...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

The Mortuary supplement doesn't require a subscription - I should know, as I've never subscribed to Beyond, just used a basic free account. It's a one-time purchase, like pretty much anything else on the site.

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

Honestly, I'm not too sure it would require that much of an increase. They already do adventures that occasionally dip into the planes. They're already doing Fizban/Bigby-style creature type deep dives - I can only assume that it's just a matter of time until we get one for Fiends. The only...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

Certainly not the same amount, but a proper Manual of the Planes-style guide to the Great Wheel, some themed, Fizban-style deep dive books on Fiends/Celestials/Elementals/etc., and the occasional adventure module (whether as a full-size book in itself or part of a compilation) that jumps to/is...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

Planescape branding aside, the Abyss section of Planes of Chaos and the Baator section of Planes of Law aren't really any "more Planescape" than the 3.5e Fiendish Codices 1 and 2, and even though 4e's Manual of the Planes, Plane Above, Plane Below, and Demonomicon are designed for a different...

Planescape: Adventures in the Multiverse Review

You're comparing multiple products released over multiple years to a single product released roughly a month ago. If your critique of the initial work of an author that has been given the rights to create new Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot novels is to immediately dunk on them for not having...

D&D 5E (2024) Half Race Appreciation Society: Half Elf most popular race choice in BG3

For what it's worth to this discussion, while 5e Planescape didn't go especially deep into the various factols and their backstories, the factol of the Bleak Cabal, Lhar, was a half-orc in past editions of Planescape, and in the 5e release he's listed as a full orc, despite being represented by...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

I did freely admit that it's been quite a while since I've gone through it - don't have cause to pull out my 4e books particularly frequently. Due respect, but my point has nothing to do with whether the word "slave" was used - it was a product from an era where they were more willing to touch...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

I don't feel that downplaying the presence of slavery and/or leaving the deep history of the setting (and the Sorcerer Kings' roles within it) a bit less explicitly defined comes anywhere close to "blandifying" the setting. Dark Sun has way more going for it than that.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

Honestly, I've always felt Dark Sun's "problematic" status to be largely overblown. I see no reason the supposedly integral element of slavery cannot be heavily toned down if not removed entirely - it's admittedly been a while, but I don't recall slavery being brought up much, if at all, in the...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

That may admittedly just be the 5e Planescape writers choosing not to mess with Farrow's backstory - in case anyone is unaware, Farrow and their alter egos are originally from the 2e Faces of Sigil book, so while hardly one (or fifteen) of the more iconic characters in the setting, they aren't a...

Planescape Manual of the Planes for 5e on DMSGuild

The Mortuary supplement on Beyond uses DMG-style Supernatural Gifts to represent the Dustmen Heralds of Dust "Dead Truce" ability. Also has a separate sidebar detailing the Faction's taboo against resurrection. I imagine many of the classic Faction abilities and restrictions could be handled...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

If I recall, the Infinite Staircase traditionally connects to places of artistic expression. It's mostly an FR thing (a lot of ties to the goddess Selune), but there's no reason it couldn't connect to Oerth as well.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

I'm sure there are multiple settlements of various scales - it's an infinite planar causeway akin to the World Tree, so there are certain to be outposts all over. Just thinking that the Planewalker's Guild would make a decent hub location to center everything around.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

Well, the Infinite Staircase is canonically where the Planewalker's Guild set up shop after they left Sigil, so it wouldn't be too hard to scale up a "guildhall" to a modest community built around the guild and services supporting it.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

There was a 2e Planescape "Tales from the Infinite Staircase" book that was a (loosely-tied together) collection of short adventures, so something along those lines wouldn't surprise me.
