    13 Gnolls

Oooch! Tonight I dmed a game like that. I always roll in front of players as part of our social contract. Tonight "guard #1 " rolled an 18, a 19, a 20, and a 15 versus their escape spells to get out of jail. Had he failed the first one, it would have gone very, very smoothly. But...

Pathfinder 1E Sticker shock, or Why Paizo and Other Online Vendors have sent me back to Mead

I looked into this a bit. Paizo does only have priority shipping for this item. You could go with here: Amazon.com: GameMastery Combat Pad by Paizo: Office Products That's $15.98 and $5.49 shipping (often shipping via amazon marketplace is a standard cost, so sellers drop the price of the...

    Girl Power!

Oh, I agree. What my list hits is more on the lines of a "for publication in an academic journal" or even "dissertation for doctoral status". And I do agree, there's some work that can be done on a smaller level. However, I think it's really unfair to call this "the closest to a scientific...

    Girl Power!

I have to say, this would be incredibly unscientific with "a group". I take methodological issue with: 1. The construct of "masculine challenges". How is that defined? 2. A lack of control group. I think it'd be important to have 3 groups: all female, all male, and mixed. (Studies have shown...

Just lost my RPG collection to fire.

My condolonces, as above. For me, while they're still posessions, they're special posessions...and losing them would be a special kind of sadness for me. A small bit of advice, depending on income and replacement options: Check for ebay "lots" under the roleplaying category. When...

    Villain theme songs!

The only rules for this thread: 1. Post a villainous theme song. 2. Embed or link to the source song so that others can hear it. NOTE! You don't have to use youtube, but if you do, to embed, you just copy and paste the url. Nothin fancy. (Just thought I'd help things along there...I always...

13th Age Discussion: A Love Letter to The Best Parts of D&D

I'll probably be getting it, but one hot button for me was mentioned: healing surges. Isaac Chalk or anyone else who knows the answer, can you tell me more about how they're used? I don't totally object to healing surges per se. I do object if they pull you ot of the narrative (e.g. If...

In your opinion, the VERY BEST adventure product to come out in the last two years.

Dungeon alphabet seems very good (I don't know it...but I just bought Goodman Games "Dungeon Crawl Classics RPG"). I'll branch out as it seems worth it. :) OK, party people. I thought this might be a prolific thread with lots of glut adventures. Toss out your favorite pathfinder...

The need for monsters as beings rather than statblocks.

Actually, that's an excellent point, Neonchameleon. 4e monsters generally do have a neat mechanical schitck that sets them apart from other monsters. I think that was an improvement from prior versions of the game. (I do not like some of the specific schticks, but that doesn't mean the overall...

The need for monsters as beings rather than statblocks.

I'm not surprised that you disagree, but I'm glad you posted. I almost always learn something when you do. EDIT: AND, welp....I'll be damned! I had written this after a quick glance at the MM to see what you were referring to. Then I went back, thinking I was right, as the blurb describing...

Good point, Doug...I'd agree with that.

In your opinion, the VERY BEST adventure product to come out in the last two years.

Doesn't have to be limited to D&D, but I think ENworld is focused primarily on D&D. So, post what you admire, but with the knowledge that others might not appreciate it quite as much if it isn't some form of D&D. That said, awesome is awesome. If you think it deserves it...gush away!!!!

In your opinion, the VERY BEST adventure product to come out in the last two years.

My choice is Way of the Wicked by Fire Mountain Games. http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product/97880/Way-of-the-Wicked-Free-Preview%3A-Prison-Break%21 I'm primarily a 3e/pathfinder player, so don't know about most other edition adventures. I considered a few Paizo APs as well as several...

In your opinion, the VERY BEST adventure product to come out in the last two years.

I'm looking to hear from everyone (from OD&D through 4e) in terms of what they think the best adventure product is (an adventure product can be a single adventure or a campaign/adventure path or mega-adventure) that's come out in the last year or two. Ideally it'd still be in print.

The need for monsters as beings rather than statblocks.

@Doug McCrae I somewhat agree, while reserving some disagreement. By that I mean you make some excellent points. The type of game certainly matters (and D&D can be a different type of game depending on the group of players and DM...but it still has its own roots and "type"). Please note...

The need for monsters as beings rather than statblocks.

Ya know, I read an excellent Cracked.com article today. 6 Moments That Make Video Games Worth It | Cracked.com I even wonder, now that I think of it, if I was partly inspired by that article in regards to this thread. Most specifically, I call attention to: Reason #3 (The first time you...

The need for monsters as beings rather than statblocks.

Disagree massively. Not sure you read the whole thread or whole OP as to why. If you did, care to comment on my points? EDIT TO ADD: Rereading my comment to you made me think that it could be taken as snide. I didn't mean it that way at all. I invite disagreement, if with specific points...

The need for monsters as beings rather than statblocks.

Can't XP you, but this post resonated strongly with me. Yeah, I overreacted because they were only talking about/showing half the picture (and I didn't realize that was the case...I was worried it was the whole picture). Hence the "much ado about nothing" comments (that I agree with) and my...
