The good ones first appeared in Planescape and not before.

    Dungeons of Castle Blackmoor

I'm intrigued by this product as well.

    D&D Thieves Strike! (merged)

Here's my favorite similiar story: Six years ago, I was running a long standing modern Cthulhu game that involved a lot of conspiracy stuff, paranormal, UFOs, etc. (much of this campaign became Dark Matter). I called the campaign Millennium Fever. For this campaign I generated stacks and...

Planescape Dead Gods adventure: give me spoilers!

Undead. But I would have done lucidity control differently, I think. I think my thinking was less specific. Eventually, Qua-Nomag gets Orcus back one way or another. It is anticlimactic as far as Dead Gods goes, but it's what's best for the game overall to have Orcus back in.

Planescape Dead Gods adventure: give me spoilers!

I must admit, I was very disappointed at the conversion of the visages to 3.0/3.5. For what it's worth, I'd do a straight conversion of the 2E versions rather than use those if you're going to run Dead Gods using the current rules.

What are everyones thoughts on Iron Heroes?

Spellcasters as resource management systems is something we talked about at length on a couple of different product (the Ritual Warrior in AE pretty much exists so that a person who wanted a non-magic using class could play a resource manager if he wanted). There are, deliberately, some...

Voting for ENnies but not knowing all the nominees?

For whatever it's worth, my take on it is like this: it seems like from the voter's POV, the ENnies are like a guy coming up to you and saying, "here are five good books, are you familiar with any of them?" If you are, he asks, "do like any of them?" If you like one, you "pick" that one. If you...

I ran my first game yesterday!

Wow. While I'm sure 3-4 people a day get called nasty names by Harlan*, I'm betting not many can claim the the LeGuin jury duty story (well, maybe 10 others, I suppose)! That's really cool! I take you live in Portland, then? It may be off-topic, but I know I'd like to hear it. *I'm not actually...

I ran my first game yesterday!

Congratuations! To quote Obi-Wan, "You've taken your first step into a larger world." DMing is the greatest.

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

Technically, it probably should be Toh-Lus, but we always say Tall-us, with an ever so slight pronouncing of the P.

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

Fair enough. Go to www.malhavocpress.com rather than montecook.com and you'll bypass the splash page and get right to the meat of the site. Agreed. That's why you can--if you use the splash page--click on the what's new button. However, I also still do the weekly message with links to all the...

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

I was talking about was honest human emotion, not intellectual analysis. Of course we realized that there would be mistakes in our work, and that there would be further additions and editions to the game. There's a huge difference between knowing intellectually that there will be further...

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

It was certainly never my intention to do that. My hands were not tied. In fact, I wrote about it being just the opposite way back when, assuming that my hands would be tied, but in fact we were given far more freedom to make changes than I ever thought possible. In a way, it scared me--I...

Monte on Origins awards and ENnies

You know, normally I ignore your posts, but this is just a lie and you diminish yourself by saying it. I never said or even implied that the judges weren't qualified. I criticized the process, because I didn't think they have enough time to review everything. I was informed that they do, the...

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

Agree 100%. You could not be more correct. (In fact, I wrote an upcoming Dungeoncraft article about this very topic.) Ptolus may or may not work, may or may not be any good, but I think it will be undeniable that it's not like other books. Like I posted earlier, I'm looking forward to the...

    Dragon 334, Malhavoc's Surprise = Ptolus

Yeah, you know, at this point, that would be my reaction too. I'm looking forward to the next couple of months where I can talk a lot more about this product and hopefully show that it's really not like anything that's been done in the game industry so far. There's a lot of info in the Dragon...

    D&D 4E 3rd-Party Publishers' Thoughts on 4E

No, just the next two. (Note: I have no special knowledge, other than how WotC works. I could be wrong, of course, but I'm confident enough to put a friendly bet on it, which is why I said what I said.)
