    New to D&D

Try to empathize with your character - imagine you are really in the spot they are in, with the capabilties they have at your disposal. D&D is best enjoyed when at least somewhat immersed. Rules, etc., are secondary.

    Shrinkage?

Note that it can be a buff for casters. But that seems fine.

    Backgrounds and Preferred Classes

I love the flavor behind, and work pput into, all of these. I think they are generally slightly weak. Just slightly.

    Shrinkage?

I think the level is a little too high. I am no arcane expert though.

    Monk Upgrade

Medieval monks were whiners Many gloriously illuminated medieval manuscripts contain petulant marginalia left behind by the monks who transcribed them. Some complain that their ink is thin and their parchment hairy; others moan that writing is "excessive drudgery" and fret about their failing...

Would like some help evaluating an item

Just give the entire party this and treasure will become meaningless. Of course, that would suck the fun out like a giant Hoover, but complaints will be held to a minimum. You could probably hear crickets chirping at your game table.

    Batman as a D&D character

You might want to consider giving Batman some casting, or Joker's going to mop the floor with him...

I'll see your rage... and raise you one... animal companion?

Why not exchange spellcasting, wild shape, and animal companion for non-casting stuff of equivalent value. Say: - all warblade class features, and - all swordsage class features, and - all crusader class features, and - all barbarian class features, and - all rogue class features, and -...

Would like some help evaluating an item

{quote=whining rant} In my campaign, I am a monk. We divide treasure as follows: - Items that PCs can use go to those PCs, based on who could use them best. If two people really want an item, they dice it off. - preference is given to those that have not gotten an item in a while. - Items that...

Would like some help evaluating an item

I agree with Empirate. While Bane:Lycan and weapon finesse are maybe only worth like +.7 and +.8 or something, respectively, +Cha to damage and +1d6 untyped are probably +1.5 and +1.1 or something, respetively. Not that there are partial pluses, just rating them against what I see as the...

Can Delay slot you in between two characters acting on the same initiative count?

Last try, then I leave the thread to you... Again, given this is not RAW but RAI I am arguing. In my example, I said you delayed to 18, changing your init number to 18 [sentence 3]. Another char had an 18, and you could choose to act before or after them on 18 [sentence 4a]. Your reply was...

Can Delay slot you in between two characters acting on the same initiative count?

Look here. Admittedly, the Rules Archive is not errata. However, when RAW is ambiguous, given the choice of "RAI" vs. "RAIM" (rules as intentionally misinterpreted), I choose RAI. I think the Rules Archive is 100% clear on RAI. In one sentence, it says your init number changes. In the very...

    Is This Unbalanced?

I am going to start a farm for intelligent monsters with high Int/Cha, and just eat them before they get dangerous. I will have one of each for breakfast each day, and carry dried and salted brains in my pack. No risk, full reward.
