Booting players - What are your nightmare stories?

We have booted players on several occasions. The first time, it worked out very well. The player was very upset, but realized he needed to get his head on straight. The next time it did not go well. I realized at that point that what really needed to have been done was to start over. I...

    D&D and AD&D - 10 Players?

If it looks like and edition war, sounds like an edition war and smells like an edition war... I am with Auld Grump: I don't know anything about the market research. I am one of the 'grognards' that was alienated by 2nd edition. While it is true that my life made finding the opportunity...

Do you still feel the wonder you had in your childhood games?

I find that my SoW is greater if I am starved for gaming and anticipate the session. But the rest of the table must be getting into the game for me to have it. It is really dependent on the mood of everyone. I want to try that last, but never have the guts to. I am afraid my players will be...

    D&D and AD&D - 10 Players?

Yes, there was the caller, who would get the actions of all PC's from their players and announce them to the DM. Also, the mapper would take the DM's descriptions and map the dungeon on graph paper. In the age of mini's, I just have a huge grid sheet that takes up the whole table and it gets...

    D&D and AD&D - 10 Players?

The largest group I have ever run was 17 players. It was quite chaotic. In older editions, there was a party leader who would get the actions of other PC's from their players and relate them all to the DM. Now, players are too vocal and PC's too individualized, with too many possible...

Do you still feel the wonder you had in your childhood games?

I have fond memories of the role-playing games of my youth. We had a 17' travel trailer in the back yard that was just for myself and my friends to stay in. We "camped" there all summer and played D&D almost every night until the wee hours, then drag ourselves to whatever jobs we had (if we...

HELP!!! Our home has been invaded by ants!

Thanks! I have found some of the Terro liquid and granules and picked up some of the sealed liquid baits. When the rain stops, I will go pick up some of the granules and make the 5' wide band around the house that they suggest. Now that it is raining quite hard, they are coming in more again...

Another one we used until recently: Re-roll initiative every round of combat. I gave you the chance to overcome a bad roll. Overall, I think static initiative works better in the current ruleset. DM

    Rescue Me

Thanks a bunch Darth! Thankfully, I read your post and will be able to watch the rerun tonight. I love this show. Mike is the one who was dating the "fat girl." Franco is the pain-killer addicted firefighter who is addicted to them because he got hurt badly saving Tommy when he got trapped...

I can think of several notable Pink Floyd bass lines such as "Money". There are a few on The Wall too. DM

    What is a Jaded Player?

Oops. I missed your post. Heh. Sounds like the same guy. Also, he owns ALL of the splatbooks and cannot find anything up to his power level. A jaded player wants to beat every creature in any monster manual and knows what all of them are by description. A jaded player does outrageous...

    Rescue Me

Does anyone here watch Rescue Me, the Dennis Leary firefighter show on FX? I missed this week's episode (the first I have missed since the series began) and am looking for a summary (spoilers, please). Can anyone help? I don't have TiVo and didn't record (July 4th through off my schedule - I...

    [July] What are you reading?

I am now reading Wal-Mart Nation and am working my way through Necromancer Games' The Crystal Skull to work into my campaign. I am hoping to read some more David Gemmell after this and I also have Wars of the Irish Kings on my waiting list. DM

    What is a Jaded Player?

I thought of another one: The jaded player spends a long period of time agonizing over character concept, choosing skills, feats, writing a backstory, etc. and after only one or two sessions he declares, "I am not interested in this character any more. I want to switch." Both of my examples...
