Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Since gem dragons aren't in the revised MM, Fizban's is still the authoritative 5e source for information on them. Let's see what that book says about amethyst dragons: Amethyst dragons, the mightiest of the gem dragons, study and psionically manipulate the fundamental principles of the...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

The full text from the UA. We don't know what the text for the PDK faction in the book actually says. Yes, there's some art of PDKs with amethyst dragons floating around, so the partnership is probably still going to be a thing, but we don't know any of the details yet.

D&D 5E (2024) Next issue of Game Informer will have details on the two upcoming Forgotten Realms books

I don't see any exposed brains, so I doubt those are cranium rats. These are probably 1st level PCs fighting rats being magically controlled by some mini bad guy off-screen. At least they're not fighting the rats in a tavern cellar! ;)

Here, take this packet. You read it. It says, "mangetout." I gave you magic beans. I hope you're gonna get out soon.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

The 3.5e book Lords of Madness includes several prestige classes tied to a number of knightly orders opposing the Far Realm and psionic aberrations (the Keepers of the Cerulean Sign, the Society of the Sanctified Mind, and the Topaz Guardians). I wonder if maybe the WotC staffer/s who came up...

D&D General More Details Revealed for Forgotten Realms Digital Expansions

Yes, currently it will be exclusive to DDB. It may make it into future print books, however. EDIT: Actually, I think these DLCs will also be available through Roll20 and the like, so it's more accurate to say they are "digital only" rather than "exclusive to DDB".

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

FWIW that lore snippet is from the UA. You keep pushing this idea that not wanting X means wanting Y but that's not necessarily the case. You can not want X without really knowing what you do want instead. I do that all the time! I personally wasn't as upset about the lore change as I was...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Fantastic episode! I like that they’re letting Christina show off her dancing skills* this season, but I’m finding La’an’s attraction to Spock a little weird. I thought she had a thing for Kirk. *Apparently she’s been dancing since she was 4!

D&D 5E (2024) Next issue of Game Informer will have details on the two upcoming Forgotten Realms books

There's a little bit more in the SCAG: Zakhara also gets a little blurb: Since the Realms have two Arabian themed areas, I've always taking to thinking of Calimshan as being more like Morocco while Zakhara is more like the Arabian peninsula. Maztica did not get named in the SCAG...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

But Cormyr isn't even one of the 5 regions. The Dalelands to the north are, and they're not getting a thematic subclass.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Well, I just think if they'd been clearer that it was an evolution rather than a retcon, perhaps fewer people would have kicked up a fuss.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Because we don't actually know if that is or isn't the case? It might very well be a retcon. We won't know for sure until the book is out.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Yes, this. If the UA had said, "The Purple Dragon Knights originally got their name from a violet-scaled black dragon but have more recently partnered with amethyst dragons" it might have gone down better. I, for one, would have found that more palatable, and I'm not generally a fan of pet classes.

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

“We don’t want this seemingly retconned version of the Purple Dragon Knight” =/= “We want the old one renamed”. Going back to the previous iteration and dropping the PDK moniker feels a little like an overreaction on WotC’s part. They could have made people happy by keeping the subclass as...

D&D 5E (2024) No way to end Rage on your turn with 2024 rules?

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

I suspect that one reason people reacted so badly towards it is that the UA didn't provide any context, so it came across like a retcon (e.g. "They're called the Purple Dragon Knights because they ride purple dragons.") Hopefully, the entry on the Purple Dragon Knight faction will explain that...

Purple Dragon Knight Retooled as Banneret in D&D's Heroes of Faerun Book

Yes, I know. I was being sarcastic. That's really an unfortunate side effect of the way the game mechanics work. Since you can't give a level 3 PC an adult dragon as a mount, the dragon has to start off small ... Since dragons are sentient beings who consider themselves to be superior to...
