I’ve lived in NZ for 20+ years now, and I’ve never heard someone who wasn’t from India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka say that. There are a few other quirky English idioms I’ve heard people from that region use. I can only assume it has something to do with their own languages’ grammatical structures...
