Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I don't know if you've noticed, but WotC has been offering more and more non-violent approaches in recent D&D offerings. It's theoretically possible to play through all of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight without resorting to violence. A number of the adventures in the Radiant Citadel and Dragon...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Sure, and I expect that it will. I can only think of two instances where WotC has changed something in line with public or private playtesting feedback that I have submitted. One was the start to Tomb of Annihilation; the other was the inclusion of Dark Sun in the Spelljammer adventure. I can't...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I agree with the first part. But I think we can make the case to WotC that they shouldn't be encouraging Bad Guy TM playstyles, and I don't agree that excluding these specific subclasses will make the setting less itself or more bland corporate trash. There are other (and arguably better) ways...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

The mechanics are fine on their own. They're not unbalanced like, say, the druid's temp HP. I just don't think that a mini-tyrant should be a playable option - and the class features are all geared toward being a mini-tyrant. I'm not saying it should be sanitized. I'm saying WotC should lean...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Yeah, I'm thinking that too. That and some "undercooked" writing problems potentially stemming from that last writers' strike.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

OK. Most turns of phrase are ridiculous really. I am arguing that it is not something anyone, in this day and age, should really want at their table, not just me. It's not a behavior anyone should be encouraging, even in make believe land. Yes, that is something I've been mulling over for a...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I wasn't being literal. That's just a metaphorical phrase people throw around here all the time to mean "You're not going to change my mind on this topic". Are you really not familiar with it?

I don't like the fiend warlock either and don't allow them in my games. GOO warlock is more palatable as it can be played with just weird / alien vibes, not specifically pro-tyranny vibes.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

Look, I'm not the first to bring this up in this thread. The point is: in our current dystopian era, I don't think encouraging players to explore the fiction of being a mini-tyrant allied with an immortal tyrant is a good idea. Maybe it was fine back in 1991. But in 2025? It just feels ...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

Yeah, that's what I was complaining about earlier in the thread ... it feels like they never really explore "strange new worlds" or go "where no one has gone before" anymore. I mean, in this most recent episode, we didn't even get to see the surface of the strange new world that needed help...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

I guess that's a valid point. I'm just not sure Dark Sun is the right place in which to do that. I think any future iteration of Dark Sun should make it clear that the Sorcerer-Kings are Bad Guys TM, and therefore anyone who is pro-sorcerer-king should also be a Bad Guy TM. Even if you want to...

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

What? I'm not a fan of Bad Guy TM PC options. I'd prefer it if necromancers, assassins, conquest paladins, etc were also NPC only. I don't run Bad Guy TM campaigns. Players in my campaigns know that.

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Infinite Staircase?

I think I would like it better if the adventure was about various factions spread out across an actual lost city, not just confined to close quarters in a small ziggurat. But of course the actual lost city is the part that’s left for DMs to do themselves.

Dungeons & Dragons Releases New Unearthed Arcana Subclasses, Strongly Hinting at Dark Sun

UA feedback survey is now open! Here's my feedback: Druid Circle of Preservation: Yellow overall. I like the idea but a) what it does mechanically is NOT preserving (it's regenerating / rejuvenating) and b) druids shouldn't be the only preservers. Renaming this the Circle of Rejuvenation would...

    D&D 5E (2024) Thoughts on Infinite Staircase?

OK so, first, I love the Infinite Staircase in general and Nafas as a patron. I am now using it in my Eberron campaign. Next, my thoughts on the specific adventures: The Lost City: I skipped this one because a) my PCs were already past levels 1-3 when the book came out, and b) I don't like...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

AV Club has a nice review of the episode with some speculation that the writers’ strike might be why this season feels a bit undercooked: Star Trek: Strange New Worlds gets goofy with Patton Oswalt

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Season 3 Viewing (Spoilers)

I guess maybe it was just an Easter egg sort of thing? Or a plot thread they decided not to continue with? The vezda is still lurking in the Enterprise computer too ... I wonder when it's going to rear its ugly head again! (The finale maybe?)
