D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition artists need to watch Legend of Korra

No, I'm saying that no matter how powerful you or your enemies get, there will always be people and things trying to gut you with sword and fang. So even if armor doesn't protect against magic, it still protects against the vast majority of attacks. It's not so much a matter of what would work...

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition artists need to watch Legend of Korra

And if Disintegrate were the attack option of choice for the majority of enemies, you'd have a point. Swords, spears and arrows, however, are far more commonplace, as are claws and fangs.

D&D 5E (2014) 5th edition artists need to watch Legend of Korra

That... what? No. Sexuality has no place in D&D art at all, unless you're looking at a BoEF or a succubus or some mythological creature for whom sexuality was part of their schtick. Adventuring women don't need to be sexy to beat someone's face in. Anything sexual in nature actually detracts...

L&L: These are not the rules you're looking for

See, roles have been around since the beginning of the game. People are complaining that they're "removing roles", but that's not possible. What they're doing is not making them so tied in to the class. Even in 4e, you could play a Fighter that was closer to a Striker, with high Strength and...

D&D 5E (2014) Basic 5E: Weapons and Armor as style choice...

It's not entirely suicidal to build a no-armor warrior in 3.5. In Pathfinder, at least, I have a pretty useful build using the Barbarian with a maxed out Constitution and an Archetype that grants half level as DR. It works rather well, without being too powerful. I do have to worry about getting...

    Rule of Three: 20/3/12

Minions A lot of people seem to be complaining that one-hit kill normal monsters won't cover the "minion" role, because a big role of minions was reduced complexity. A lot of people seem to be forgetting that the roll of the entire Next system is "reduced complexity". You're not gonna have every...

    Constitution and HP

    1) That's a personal issue. Especially as many believe that a permanent part of your character shouldn't be randomized. You should never have, for example, a Barbarian who rolls nothing but 1's and 2's have their HP outstripped by a Wizard with the same Consitution that happens to roll slightly...

    Constitution and HP

My method (above) covers this easily. Each level you get your max hit die, -2 per level beyond first. So going Barbarian 3 would get you 12+Con., 10+Con. and 8+Con. If you then switch to Wizard at level 4 (for some reason...), you get 0+Con. HP (6-6). If you take that fourth level in Fighter...

    Constitution and HP

I would love to see HP totals (and damage totals) scaled down quite a bit. One thing I did with a homebrew very-low-power game was implement decaying Hit Dice. Everybody gets their Constitution bonus in HP at each level. But each class's Hit Die grants HP equal to the maximum, -2 per level. So...

What Spells Are Known in Your Setting?

Generally, I say that anything in the core book (PHb in 3.5., Core Rules in Pathfinder) is up for grabs: these are the spells that are common enough that any school or mages or gathering of wizards will allow them to be shared. Anything from a different book has to be researched or hunted down...

    OotS 841 is up

You're right, it is worded poorly. But it definitely says that spells can only be prepared at a certain time of day. So you can leave slots open, but unless it's the same time of day that you always prepare your spells, you can't fill those empty slots later in the day.

    OotS 841 is up

Well, when a Wizard knows every spell on his spell list and can prepare any of them he wants each morning, then the Clerics can complain about not being able to prepare mid-day... until then, they'll just have to learn to live with only being nearly omnipotent.

House Rule: Fate Pool (Does this work?)

The problem here is that this won't actually help a fighter beat a mage at high levels. A +20 to your attack roll means almost nothing when the mage is 500 feet in the air, invisible, with a 50% miss chance against ranged attacks, and showering you with fireballs. Yes, the fighter can use magic...

    OotS 841 is up

Cleric magic doesn't work like that. They must prepare at dawn or dusk, and they don't get to leave slots open like a Wizard can. Well, they can leave slots open, but they can't do anything with them until the next time they prepare spells at dawn or dusk.

    Balancing Save-or-Die

I think an X/Day ability would work fine. Something like: (You can then give Assassins special features that allow them to better fight against targets that are Marked for Death. Or some that increase the "damage" roll and the like.) This really has that "All or Nothing" vibe, and you can...

    Dominate Person - Question

Yes, any action. You'll note that "Changing Allegiance" and "Suddenly Hating My Friends" are not shown on list of actions that can be taken. You can be forced to do something, you can't be forced to think something.

    Dominate Person - Question

There is no should involved. The description of Dominate Person specifically states that they only do what they're specifically ordered to do. It doesn't change their alignment, or their allegiances in any way. If you're not ordered to resist the spells of your allies, then you won't. And it's...

    Dominate Person - Question

That doesn't fit with the spell, though. A Dominated person does what's required to survive, and what they're told; nothing else. If you don't tell them to resist spells, they won't... because you didn't tell them to.

    Dominate Person - Question

Dominate Person can dictate actions, but not feelings. If the caster of Protection from Evil is an ally, then you're not hostile to them. Your controller can tell you to attack them, and force you to do so via the spell, but you're still not hostile. And yes, the controller can tell you to, for...

    Dominate Person - Question

Only if the Dominating entity specifically orders them to resist other effects. Otherwise, they'd be passive.
