Isn't it funny how Windharrow, a minor NPC at best as written, has ended up being such a big part of so many people's campaigns.

I'd put it down to something going wrong with the casting of the spell but with a good outcome. You might spend a lifetime trying to recreate that error, but with no success.

How old is your son? That makes a big difference in how you approach the game.

In a previous game long ago, I had the characters travel back in time where one of them accidentally directly caused the death of the entire younger version of the party. That messed with their heads.
