I don't really care about builds or min/maxing. I just make sure the main roles are there. Had Laezel as Battlemaster Fighter, Karlach as Berserker Barbarian, Shadowdark as Cleric 1/Rogue 11 and myself as Cleric 6/Wizard 6. Combat was generally quite easy from chapter 2 and onwards on Balanced...

I tried using seeming to sneak a person past some guards, but they recognized the person regardless and attacked. Worked with invisibility, though.

I suspect many who learned D&D before 3rd edition were also greatly influenced by Elmore's art during the 80s and 90s. Lots of Dragonlance art features majestic-looking blue dragons without nose horns. When I think AD&D dragons I think Elmore, not Monster Manual.
