    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next weekly art column!

4e ampersand is my favourite, but it should be breathing fire to totally kick ass

    Falling from Great Heights

Honestly I don't. To me D&D high level characters should be superhumans that can take over the city guard if they want (as long as the city guard doesn't have its dose of high level characters). An high level fighter should be something like Thomas in R.E.Feist's books and should never fall in a...

Vancian Spellcasting's Real Problem - CoDzilla

Actually egg-laying is similar and also pyrotechnical shows are close to what a vancian mage does (you prepare a given number of "rockets" and then you can use them during the show).

    Rule of Three: 20/3/12

The God Gilean in Dragonlance is another example.

    Rule of Three: 20/3/12

I'm with you (and I'm a big fan of 4e). And honestly running a standard monster in 4e is not much more difficult than running a minion.

D&D 4E 4E combat and powers: How to keep the baby and not the bathwater?

What I would do is: Attach to every power (and I would like even basic attack, trip, etc. to be powers) a cost in term of fatigue/mana/force of will/whatever points. Fatigue will be used for martial maneuvers, mana for magic, force of will for psionics, etc. Let the character start the day...

    Races you play the most

Humans first, but also Aasimars and Drow in 2e/3e and Dragonborn and Revenants in 4e. I just hate elves and dwarves (mostly because of some bad experiences with elf/dwarves in game...).

    L&L Turning & Churning

I'd like to have two versions of Turn Undead. A burst that you can maintain and can ward offf only mindless undead and a blast that can affect any kind of undead. In this way you can preserve the two iconic cases of the cleric being a safe heaven in an horde of mindless undeads as well that of...

    D&D 5E (2014) How Should D&D Next Be Advertised?

I guess you should edit the title of this thread. It's a bit too early for 7th edition.

    Sloppy Design of Basic Attacks

Especially if it is a close burst/blast attack.

    D&D 5E (2014) I hope this isn't 5E...(art that screams "not this, not this!")

I really like Michael Komarck stuff like the pictures here.

Gishes themes, classes, paragon paths and concepts

The 4e shadow assassin is basically a sort of gish-theme too and a pretty good one.

D&D 5E (2014) "5E is of no interest to me" - really? Already?

I will judge 5e on its own merits when it will come out. When I first went through the 4e PHB I told to myself "what the hell are these encounter and daily powers?", and then after a few weeks 4e became my favourite iteration (as Wizards would put it) and I have no desire to go back to previous...

D&D Blog. Should Fighters get multiple attacks?

4e is considered the strongest D&D math-wise so far. And still trough stuff like Kulkor Arms Master you can build gouge-wielding wizards that do more damage than your average striker. As long as you can control static bonuses multi-attacks are fine if properly balanced, but historically in D&D...

    Assassin in DDN

We now have some evidence that the assassin will be in the PHB1 of DDN (it has been mentioned several times by the devs and seems to be the favourite class of Rob Schwalb so I guess he'll push to have it in from the start). What is your favourite incarnation of the assassin in previous...

    The Heart of the Matter

I have a lot of fond memories of AD&D but mainly use the "fluff" books as a reference now (love Volo's guides) as 4th edition is more my cup of tea (and I don't mind longer combat as long as they're fun).
