Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

I am finding out that their are players who don’t read anything but the actual rules text and are absolutists regarding everything else I.e. if the rules don’t specifically say something then it is allowed and fair game. There is no “spirit” of the rules or RAI, it’s black and white. Some have...

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

Not to nit pick but a short rest after every fight isn’t typical. A short rest after every 2 fights maybe, but doubtful. My game is a short rest every 4-6 fights. What you are describing is a nova, just say so. I have never seen or been in a game where you can take your warhorse into a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

With the summon greater demons spell is there any need for Conjure elemental chain to be taken? Should they just be changed to 1 action? I get they have a lower risk factor but not enough to offset the creatures that you get. Why can’t we get decent stuff for the conjurer?

D&D 5E (2014) Age of Worms Adventure Path

I checked the MM and never read the Aarakocra and they are definitely tied to the Wind Dukes. At CR 1/4 they fit well for summon lesser demon.

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

I get what your saying but allowing too much table talk makes Message and Rarys Telepathy useless or much weaker. Table talk is also situational, if at the Kings ball and the PC are all over the room they are each on their own, unless of course the above spells are in use. Or a PC that is...

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

So in all your combats you ride a horse all the time and have room to keep them 10’ away? If you prone the creature it’s 5’ away from you and a lance attacks with disadvantage at 5’, so it would cancel out. If you use it off a horse it’s a 2 handed weapon, so dueling would not apply. To...

D&D 5E (2014) Preserve Life (Life Domain Cleric Feature): do you like it?

Strategically that is true. Life clerics do have a lot of healing of you follow the rest all the time suggestions in the DMG. If you do not though, and I don’t, then they really become good. It’s also a good dip for PC that want to pull off a combat medic or hospitalier build.

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

I get what you are saying but most only the integer not what it represents. A properly played PC would make the difference clear. Remember stats are supposed to be a bell curve, with an 18 about 3-4 standard deviations from the norm, maybe more, a real outlier. Goes the other way also. A...

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

How do you take the mount into the dungeon? Why isn’t your DM just attacking it first and killing it right away? Any intelligent enemy would try to dismount you.... The damage numbers do seem off, remember RAW you can’t give yourself advantage anymore with Shield Master, it’s been changed...

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

This is true. The problem I have with players taking oathbreaker is, IMO: 1. Logically you can’t start out as an oathbreaker. Level 1 is the beginning of your career, what Oath could you break to be an oathbreaker before you even start? To me it’s like getting fired before you are hired...

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

That’s why I suggested (and enforce with my groups) that session 1 is a PC building session where everyone rolls up their PC and builds it right there. Of course people know this going in so they prepare with a few PC ideas ready to go, which probably everyone here would do also. Since it’s...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength bows?

Actually crossbows did change that. Archery took years of training and archers were always considered elite troops, and some ancient empires built their military around them. Crossbows for personal use changed military warfare because of the ease of use and training. You can train a soldier...

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength bows?

At very least the hand crossbow, you would think everyone had them and carried them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Strength bows?

To me there is clearly a place for them. Odysseus wouldn’t be possible RAW, that’s not right. But it is an easy fix. If you are going to do that though you should also up the damage of crossbows, which is much higher then represented in game.

    Most popular no-core classes?

Healing still has value when I run my games where it’s 6-8 encounters before a short rest and all rest healing is spending hit die, Long rests do not get back all your HP. Try it, the game is MUCH better. Many things become more valuable.

D&D 5E (2014) Age of Worms Adventure Path

All of them. I am saying the Vaati spirits contact the PC so when the PC cast summon instead of getting a demon you get a Wind Warrior or some other Vaati vassal. Or the Vaati give another option to polymorph into.
