Social skills vs. ... all other mechanics

To this quote above "I don't care how many resources a player spends to execute their dumb plan, or how long they take to execute their dumb plan. If it's a dumb plan, it is going to fail. Either automatically, or by me increasing the likelihood of failure by giving disadvantage. And a smart...

    Most popular no-core classes?

Summoner. The lack of summoning spells kills the conjurer.

    D&D 5E (2014) ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

FA is telling you that Spell Sniper probably isn't worth a feat. Try Warcaster and never worry about casting with items in your hands, make OPP attacks with spells, and get ADV on Con saves to concentrate while taking damage. Try Alert and go first more to get your stuff off early. Try...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

I wouldn't allow a gaze if you are invisible, but some might.

Social skills vs. ... all other mechanics

Back to George S Patton "A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan executed next week" If the plan was dumb it will fail on it own, the DM doesn't have to help it fail. If it was a dumb plan but worked but costs more resources then the increased cost is a cost and the...

Social skills vs. ... all other mechanics

Yes of course they are tangible. You get them by acting as HEROES, as appropriate to your PC, class, race and background. That might be doing something: 1. foolhardy and reckless (Barbarian) - the group was taking to long to plan out an attack so the barbarian just raged and attacked. It...

Looking for help building a low level archer bard

As a side note, Bards make effective healbots. One level of Life cleric and magic secrets for Aura of Life is very effective. I am in a group with no Cleric, our Bard did this and took Healer feat and it’s not a problem at all.

D&D 5E (2014) Age of Worms Adventure Path

Looking for advice. Ok since we started this, Summon Demon spells came out. I want to work in an angle where instead of summoning demons the Vaati send Wind Warriors. I think it’s appropriate once the PC get Zosiels amulet, connecting them with the party. The question is this, how do you...

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

Only 1 in 10 player does it, but when a PC builds in a weakness or a MC that doesn’t really fit, the rest of the players notice it. The DM really notices it, at least I do, and that hooks the PC to the DM.

Arguments and assumptions against multi classing

I have said this many times and still believe it’s the best way to go: Session 0 is where the DM and the players sit down and role PC and design them right there to smooth out problems ahead of time and fit everything together. To me this is essential to alleviate many of the problems in this...

D&D 5E (2014) Polymorph at higher levels - no beasts left?

The problem with polymorph into some high CR beasts is size, they might not fit the area you are in. Then you have to use the spell the other way, to shrink them.

Social skills vs. ... all other mechanics

As far as inspiration, its like medals in combat, as stated by George S Patton: 'We must have more decorations and we must not give them out with a niggard hand. A young soldier upon being asked by Napoleon what he desired in recompense for an heroic act said, “Sire, the Legion of Honor”, to...

Social skills vs. ... all other mechanics

In many cases its the DMs fault players don't show good "tactics" when they do things as if a player tries something they don't get rewarded for it if "it isn't in the rules." There is an inspiration mechanic, but few use it, and the few that do are so stingy they stifle the game. Inspiration...

    5e invisibility and Detect Magic

Yes, I did. You were so busy on finding all the ways a silent motionless construct could make noise and explaining how if something isn't explicitly named in the rules it simply doesn't occur while ignoring many things that are written out in descriptions and other things that are assumed...

    5e invisibility and Detect Magic

I think another issue is some DM are just afraid to surprise their players, or, more likely some players just cant stand ever being surprised and getting attacked one time for free, its the DM pulling a dirty trick on them. That's a pretty clear undercurrent through the thread.

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

I have never used an enchanted wizard before, but it seems to me you can summon the demon, control it as usual, and if you lost control then get next to it and an enemy and if it attacks you use your 6th level ability to redirect the attack.

D&D 5E (2014) Creatures partially in an area of effect. How are they affected.

Remember the radius is up and down also, a 15’ radius sphere. So spirit guardians is effective against creatures who dive by attack you, or you can be 20’ in the air and fly over them, reaching 15’ down, thus affecting all creatures in the area taller then 5’ For a fireball, against tall...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

I would say since his main melee attack is the Gaze from being an enchanter, Fire Shield would keep the others off. Since Polymorph is your main 4th level spell anyway, its more of an emergency button I suppose. I would have went with Banishment, Summon Demon or Watery Sphere. I have always...

    5e invisibility and Detect Magic

I tried to say that before also. Since the players didn't get a roll to detect or a free perception check, it was called a railroad job, how do you know a motionless construct is silent, even if silent the pc could hear whistling sounds or cobwebs displaced, etc.
