    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

A level in knowledge cleric helps with the skills. You get armor too and guidance spell, which helps with every skill.

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

That’s what should occur. In fact it should occur before the game starts so your DM can integrate your PC concept seemlessly into the campaign. My initial post in this thread was that MC is all its cracked up to be to build a PC concept around a theme. It shouldn’t be used to strictly...

D&D 5E (2014) Equipments & Magic Items to seek for as a Tempest Cleric

I ran a dwarf cleric with a craft background in pottery that made “potions” with clay tiles the size of dominos. You had to break the tile to get the magic. It also avoided the wet problem. I gave players mahjong tiles to use at the table. The DM loved the idea and let me inscribe a scroll...

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

BTW these are probably the same players who when you throw them a curveball claim “Hey the monster manual doesn’t say that!!!!! “

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

Correct your intent is irrelevant. But to claim it’s something other than what is, well that’s relevant. There is no pact of the power gamer. It’s funny to me how many players who dip warlock skip everything in the text right down to the powers part then claim “mechanics” and “text.” As a...

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

They could have, but somehow they were they were different. This happens every time an option comes out that is “blue” or above in every guide posted here. The “inspiration” inspired them. Somehow the dip into “your main stat as your attack stat through dip or Initiate” was a suddenly new...

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

No, it isn’t. I read the thread, the concept was carefully chosen and enunciated. It was always about what’s best within the rules construct, carefully fitted within a RP shell. I was in early on the thread. It ok, I just object to calling it something other than what it really is.

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

Correct. Paladins losing alignment restrictions somehow moved into Paladins losing “devotion to their cause, in fact any cause except builds” free-for all. It’s not the players fault, it’s the DM fault for allowing it. Build a theme at least, and then start to build a character concept. You...

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

Next I will add your weak defense, that you “suddenly” had hexblade ideas right after it came out. You will have explain your “inspiration” as a defense, then turn to “whataboutism.” Go ahead, “internets.”

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

I added you, through exposure. Your anger and sudden defense proves I am right.

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

The point to this post is people dipping Warlock and then claiming “I didn’t do it to min/max I just have a neat idea.” You see the defenders, and the RPers. One sees the role play concept and goes forward, the power gamers work backwards from a plateau.

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

It seems to me your entire answer is “Power Gaming and how to justify it.”

D&D 5E (2014) Age of Worms Adventure Path

The PC were not 7th Level at start of Hall of Harsh Reflections, so I had to boost them. I figure they should be 8th after Sodden Hold, and then get to 9th for the next. All of these adventures have 2 distinct parts. With killing everything in Sodden Hold is only about (IIRC) about 18k total...

D&D 5E (2014) Equipments & Magic Items to seek for as a Tempest Cleric

Here are some ideas from an adventure path I am playing now, the Age of Worms, converted by Tormyr here and used (hopefully) with his permission: Lightning Sword Weapon (shortsword), legendary (requires attunement) This +1 sword deals an additional 1d4 lightning damage on a hit. Three times per...

D&D 5E (2014) Equipments & Magic Items to seek for as a Tempest Cleric

As a side note, if you are playing a tempest cleric at my table I would make sure a lightning weapon would be in there somewhere for you..

D&D 5E (2014) Hang Time - What if you jump farther than your speed?

As a side note to my post above, this has in play at my table resulted in the dexterous types inevitably trying to much and crapping our on the dice This includes hitting the cliff face on the other side and taking damage and then missing the STR check to grab the ledge and falling more...

D&D 5E (2014) Hang Time - What if you jump farther than your speed?

The rules were squished into an artificial construct of a turn being a move, action and bonus action in some order then a stoppage in time. The stoppage in time doesn’t really exist, it’s a bookkeeping convenience. The player with 30’ speed who wants to attack (an action) and then run 20’ to...

D&D 5E (2014) Age of Worms Adventure Path

I have been tracking XP for these adventures and unfortunately that doesn’t work. XP changed enough between editions that you won’t level fast enough even though the conversations are deadly and tough as they are. It’s mostly because XP for traps and obstacles are not there any more even...

Multi-classing: as good as it seems?

MC isn’t a problem if you “enforce” role play at your table, and I mean players and DM. Then it shines as building concept to flesh out an idea. For example I have 2 guys going now who are MC. A copper Dragonborn who started as a sorcerer then realized that her heritage included a Bronze...

    D&D 5E (2014) Treantmonk's Guide to Wizards 5e

This is true also, in fact I play Monks as Mage Killers as a carry over from previous editions although you can’t just grapple them to death like before. The caster anything behind his minions is the archetype, what makes creatures like the Tarrasque unique IMO is it “it can’t be bargained...
