Hit dice used in ways other than to bolster hit points

All over for me, all Healing is Hit dice. Potion of healing, your hit die + Medicine modifier of creator. Cure wounds is your hit die, etc. Healer kit is medicine skill of user + your hit die + levels. Rest in dungeon? Ok sure but you need to spend and extra hit die to heal.

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] My Word Is My Sword: The Paladin Guide

I wouldn’t with shove but I sure would if you bashed with it. I let the fighter, barbarian, and Paladins bash with their shield without having to take Tavern Brawler feat but obeying the other two weapon fighting rules.

D&D 5E (2014) Suggested nerf to the Shield spell

How are the getting AC 18 and Shield spell? That sounds like medium armor and shield and Dex bonus of +2. Are these Hexblade dips? What level? The Shield spell doesn’t help against things like area attacks, burning oil everywhere, mob attack rules, Spirt Guardians, etc. Attack them to pop...

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] My Word Is My Sword: The Paladin Guide

I saw that when it came out but Yunru post made me think it was in the errata or something as opposed to a tweet.

D&D 5E (2014) [GUIDE] My Word Is My Sword: The Paladin Guide

I didn’t see the official ruling in the errata, where is it? I still don’t follow the logic of the ruling, but it is what it is. I never found it OP or anything like that, it was merely a neat option to use in some cases.

    D&D 5E (2014) Two-weapon fighting paladin

Actually as soon as I thought of the idea of a dual wielding Paladin that lost a hand so beats people with his iron covered stump I remembered the Deities and Demigods book image of Tyr. I am definitely going to build a Paladin that just punches people in the face with that. In the 1956 Moby...

    D&D 5E (2014) Two-weapon fighting paladin

Oh God not another Hexblade dip!! Does it ever end? In all honesty as a DM if you have a good reason (background, RP, missing a hand and the stump is covered in iron, etc) for your Paladin to be a dual-wielder I would just let you take it.

    D&D 5E (2014) ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

I wouldn’t mind using Beyond although I think the application is clunky. However I am not going to pay again for material I already have. I get that Curse has to make their money also, but I don’t have to pay them.

    D&D 5E (2014) ForgedAnvil D&D 5E Character Generator

The sheet handles spells that way, cleric domain spells are handle the same way. You just have to put Darkness in. I think spell sheet has to be set to all and then you just have to choose the right spells for the material. I don’t think the sources choices applies anywhere but the start page.

Tempest Cleric Level 8 Choice (ASI or Feat)

You cant MC into SOR since your CHR is too low, it needs to be 13. If you did do that then you cast BB you use your melee attack modifier, not wisdom, so make sure you watch that. Warcaster and BB and other OppATT stuff only have value if your group forces OppAtt, if you are the tank that...

    D&D 5E (2014) Picking a feat at 12 level

If you are provoking OppAtt with those spells and using Warcaster then Booming Blade is better as you can provoke the attack and then use Booming Blade and get the bonus damage right away. Warcaster helps with spell casting and hands free issues, if your DM isn’t strict about it then it means less.

D&D 5E (2014) Which magical secret would you take for AOE damage on a Bard?

Find Greater Steed is great. Destructive Wave is fine, huge radius (30', that's more then double the area of a fireball) its V only, 2 damage types, and knocks prone which can spring people for critical hits. Valor Bards will be near the front so its better for them. Your Great Weapon Master...

    Treantmonk's Guide to character building

You split it among your group members. It’s takes care of so many problems that you have to pay for it. It is certainly reasonable for the PC Cleric to request a little extra on top “for the temple.”

Treantmonk's Guide to character building part 2:

TM, For many of these cleric builds if the God you pick has a favorite weapon that can certainly count as a holy symbol and it’s always in your hand. Doing so can delay Warcaster to 8th level. As a DM if you had a some type of God with a Thunder focus I would certainly allow a swap out of a...

D&D 5E (2014) What are the 3 best cantrips a Tomelock can choose?

Group dependent, but if you have Command/Dissonant Whispers or other OppAtt provokers then BB is good as you can get the damage in. Warcaster can get BB in on OppAtt without casting it on your turn.

    On the Dodge Action

It is, its a tanking feature. Some things are a little counter-intuitive. Like Sentinel, the features are set up so you get attacked in preference to other targets if the enemy is tactically aware.

Official D&D Errata Updated (Nov 2018)

It doesn't matter anymore, but I can see if you force a reading I guess that interpretation is possible. I figured the way it is now was the only reasonable reading if allowing for a little writing inconsistency.

    On the Dodge Action

I get what you are saying, but I want to make sure the PCs get their stuff in. IME players don't mind failing as long as they had a chance, but wasting an action is a let down.

Official D&D Errata Updated (Nov 2018)

Did people really think this is how it worked? I never heard of that or had anyone try it. I always just used the chart for total spell slots and then picked spells for each class individually, which leaves you sometimes with a higher level spell slot empty to upcast something. With the...
