    Shield master on twitter

I am not sure because I don’t see how it makes any other rule simpler and easier to interpret. If JC wanted to he could have worded Shield Master like Monks Flurry of Blows, they didn’t. I will of course use the old way, it’s makes the feat worth taking as opposed to almost garbage now and...

    Shield master on twitter

Forcing some enemies to contest every round isn’t a bad feat design. Enemies contest against SS, GWM and PAM every round with less chance at success in some cases and for more direct damage, they just contest with AC. Look at it this way, GWM and SS users probably outnumber Shield Mastery...

    Shield master on twitter

You missed the point of my statement entirely. JC claimed it was cheese in his tweet. That he considers it cheese at all compared to SS is absurd. That’s why I put a ? at the end but I guess you missed it. Yes the point of SS is that it is a ridiculous feat that is way more OP then shield...

    Shield master on twitter

It’s limited by the size condition written into the Shove action, no more than one size larger. That alone makes shove a limited action as PC lives are filled with huge and larger creatures that are dangerous.

    Shield master on twitter

Shield master is cheese because of the timing of a chance to knock someone (with size limitations) prone but using Sharp Shooter to attack a target at maximum range behind 3/4 cover without penalty isn’t? I guess JC likes himself some ranged characters.

Read Nightfall by Asimov, it’s about a world in a system with 6 suns so darkness is unknown except for once every 2000 years.

D&D 5E (2014) How strict are you with vision and illumination rules?

Combatants often try to escape their foes’ notice by hiding, casting the invisibility spell, or lurking in darkness. When you attack a target that you can’t see, you have disadvantage on the attack roll. This is true whether you’re guessing the target’s location or you’re targeting a creature...

D&D 5E (2014) Is my DM being fair?

My god I didn't know people still used those with every book being out somewhere... I forgot they even existed in once the books came out and the errata also years ago.

D&D 5E (2014) How strict are you with vision and illumination rules?

As DM you also have to know how serious the PC are about lighting. If someone has faerie fire readied, you got to put some situations in their where it’s important. Same thing with control flames as it doubles normal torches, which is a pretty nice effect. You need to let the dark vision types...

D&D 5E (2014) How strict are you with vision and illumination rules?

Strict enough as DM to make sure PCs carry a light source that lights them up like a Christmas tree so enemies can see them coming.

D&D 5E (2014) Is my DM being fair?

What rules set are you talking about? There is no basic rules, there is the DMG, PHB, etc. Are you talking from the SRD, page 64 is about Armor. The DMG page 64 is about the Nine Hells. Marching Order is on page 183 of the PHB, and never mentions Passive Perception at all: M a r c h i n g O...

Player Responsibility for the GM's Fun??

Nothing is more infuriating then players NOT acting in character as their PC would. You don't have to use various voice accents, but please play your PC as if you were the PC.

Player Responsibility for the GM's Fun??

Of course. There is nothing worse than a player who will stop the entire game to argue about some rule interpretation that will end up being meaningless to the overall story. I see this sometimes, players even arguing over a hand drawn map on a battlemat that a tiny edge the width of the wet...

D&D 5E (2014) Is my DM being fair?

Do you mean the rules wherein you created your own rule on how to handle passive perception? That ruleset? Or the rules as I seen used in play on Twitch Streams sponsored by WoTC? And no you interpretation does not cover it at all, nor does ArialBlacks. The rules are not straightjacket, in...

    What happens to the "suboptimal?"

For most. Look at all the threads here on optimizing PC, different combos, whether to roll or use an array, etc. Shoot I remember Traveller when during character creation your PC could die and you had to start over.

D&D 5E (2014) Is my DM being fair?

Yes. Some will ABSOLUTELY NOT DEVIATE ONE WORD from the ruleset as written even if it makes sense to do so until Sage Advice oks it for them. Its quite clear if you watch any Wizards streams this is not the case, they are all about moving the game along and framework of the ruleset as not set...
