    Ebberon as a Superheroes Campaign

I think it's a perfectly spiffy idea, and a perfectly natural extenstion of high-level play. If you just add the idea of "celebrity" to a high-level campaign, you've pretty much got super-heroes. I'd love to see how it plays out.

    Temporal railroading.

I used to be that kind of DM. My players ended up not caring - and why should they have? If they wanted to participate in a non-interactive event, they could rent a movie. They play D&D to interact. Once I figured that out, I became a *much* better DM.

What's your favorite NEW story hour?

Of the story hours that fit the criteria here, I've recently started reading Emperor Valerian's: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=100625 He's got a very nifty and flavorful oriental campaign world which I'm sure I'll be stealing ideas from eventually. The thing that I've recently...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Kyoji, the Monk Sixteen years ago, in the dead of night, a newborn baby was left outside the front gate of the Temple of the Silent Lake. Upon discovering the crying infant the next morning, the monks of the temple reacted with surprise. They were not surprised that someone had abandoned a...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Two votes for No. 1 and two votes for No. 2 so far. Hmm. I obviously need an odd number of readers to make this work :) To answer your question, BSF, the red sun doesn't currenly have any special symbolic meaning attached to it. In fact, I was sorta worried that people would interpret it as...

This thread is giving me such wonderful ideas. I fully expect maggots to show up in my next game session. :]

    Creepy...

The creepiest thing I think I ever threw at my characters was a prison that was a 20-story deep pit where political enemies of the Emperor were sent to die. While exploring it, they found a torture toom, and in the room was a glass vat with a man floating in a reddish-yellow liquid. They...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Which do you like best? The Mikado's Imperial Seal is an image of a flying crane above the kanji for "Aono" - the Imperial name. I was experimenting in photoshop to come up with a visual representation of the seal, and I produced the following variations: 1. 2. 3. So the question is...

Takayama and Tsumago, Part 3 This week is going to be quite busy, so I bring you a short update: ---------------------------------------------------------------- Animated by the black fires of Yomi, the corpse of the ninja rose out of the water. In the brief span of time since its death, its...

    non-linear, non-site-based adventures - your thought process?

I used to be the type of DM that mapped out every corner of the dungeon and wrote up descriptive text for every encounter. Because I put so much work into it, I was always forcing the PCs to go places and do things that they didn't want to do. Through experience, and through my participation in...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Ladies and gentlemen... Kakeru's player! To update the list: Ivy Sylvan - Fukasu Kiwifudgechocobo - Kyoji ChewManPhoo - Takashi Attila the Bum - Kakeru As to the banter, a portion isn't quite appropriate for public consumption, that is true. However, the majority of it does seem to be usable...

    What's the correct forum...

...for posting details of one's campaign. I'm writing up a story hour right now, and I thought it might be nifty to create a thread with all the campaign details that I've come up with to support it. However, I'm not entirely sure whereabouts to put it. Rogue's Gallery seems to be more for...

    non-linear, non-site-based adventures - your thought process?

I'll quote from a judgment I wrote for the IronDM Fall 2004 tournament: That's pretty much my philosphy of adventure design. I'll add that the most successful adventures of this type are those where the "PCs do nothing" outcome is one that the PCs will be diametrically opposed to. Voila...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Hi Fimmtiu! Welcome, and I'm glad that you're enjoying the story so far. Based on your and HalfOrc's comments, I'll just keep doing what I'm doing with regard to describing combat. This is a criticism I have myself. It's mostly a result of trying to write up the year-old bits with notes that...

He Thought, "How does the DM know what I'm thinking?"

I tend to use my player's OOC comments as inspiration for their character's thoughts. Beyond that, I just try to keep it in character.
