carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

It's been a busy week at work, so this week's update is on the short side. ------------------------------------------------------------ Musashi's hand went immediately to the hilt of his katana, while Fukasu simply rolled over and groaned. Kakeru cleared his throat and sighed inwardly, "Define...

    Fey Lore

By definition, they are more powerful than normal feats. With FR's regional feats, WotC made a concious decision to reward players who chose to ground themselves in the campaign world. These feats were designed with the same intent. Overall, they should be at about the same power level as a...

    Fey Lore

I recently created a list of "feytouched" feats for a campaign that has lots of fey activity. Mechanically, they work the same as FR's Regional Feats or OA's Ancestor Feats; they're more powerful than a standard feat, but you can only take one, and you can only take it when you're creating your...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Thanks! I do know that my writing skills are fairly rusty, but I've got a lot of material to cover, so I guess I'll have plenty of practice. For those who are interested, I've updtated Fukasu, Musashi, and Kakeru's stats over in the Rogues' Gallery: http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=121369

    carpedavid's Land of the Crane

In the most recent post, Fukasu, Kakeru, and Musashi leveled up. Here are their new stats: Kurosawa Kakeru Male Human Shaman 2; CR 2; HD 2d6+4; hp 14; Init +1; Spd 30 ft; AC 13, touch 11, flat-footed 12; BAB +1; Grp +4; Atk +4 melee (1d6+3, unarmed strike); Full Atk +4 melee (1d6+3, unarmed...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

I can certainly try to make them more detailed, though trying to remember the details of this far back in the past is sorta hard. It'll be easier to make it more detailed as I approach the present. For those reading along at home - the events in the most recent post occured in session 3, which...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Yes, compared to other parts of the world, it is fairly unpopulated. Towns can be days apart (as you've seen here), and most peasants never leave the village they were born in at any time during their lives. It's the kind of mindset where travellers are, almost without fail, adventurers. In...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Fukasu poked at the figure with her sword. Nothing happened, so she poked it again. It stood, silent and still, frozen in mid swing. "Huh," she muttered. Musashi stepped back from the figure, prepared to strike if it began to move again, "What is this thing?" A voice from the direction of the...

I'm hoping to be done with it by early afternoon. So, check back around 2:00 EST.

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Hi BJ! Actually, the group encountered a different wandering monk a couple of sessions before they ran into you. Just to avoid confusion, it'll take me several more updates until I reach the point in the campaign where your character gets introduced. However, that should just serve to increase...

    Indispensible DM Resources

PC Gen - I find it invaluable for statting up NPCs. I couldn't DM without it now (or, at least, without some sort of electronic character creator). http://pcgen.sourceforge.net

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Thanks Nemm and BSF! Encouraging comments make me want to keep writing :) This week's been busy, so today's update is on the shorter side. -------------------------------------------------------------- "Aaaaah! A spirit!" Fukasu screamed. "Aaaaah! An oni!" the spirit of the monk screamed...

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Musahi woke up in pain. He opened his eyes to see a very blurry Kakeru hovering over him, with what he could only assume was a look of concern. Realizing he was lying on his back, a very indefensible position, he tried to sit up. He only made it about halfway before a wave of nausea washed over...

Piratecat Comics & MnM presents six issues of Code-4: Reunion (updated 4/06)

PC, once again you make me doubt my own abilities as a writer. After reading this, going back to writing my own dinky story hour just seems pointless, somehow. Your ability to breathe life into characters and scenes is phenominal -- so I will read this, not only to be entertained, but to learn.

    Coolest bits of Unearthed Arcana

In my Land of the Crane campaign, I'm using action points, taint, and spell points with the fatigue/exhaustion option. In my Greenlands campaign, I'm using action points and the class-based defense bonus. It models a "low armor" setting quite well.

    carpedavid's Land of the Crane

Below is the most recent PC to make an appearance in the story hour. There is one more to be introduced, but he won't show up for quite a while. Takashi Male Human Monk 1; CR 1; HD 1d8+1; hp 9; Init +9; Spd 30ft; AC 16, touch 16, flat-footed 13; BAB +0; Grp +6; Atk +2 melee (1d6+2 unarmed...

    I've figured it out.

I'd venture to say that the reason 3E is loved and 2E is hated is that 3E has much better mechanics, *and* it gives the end user enough knowledge to know how to tinker with the system in a balanced fashion. If you will, 3E is "internally consistant." At least, far more so than 2E. At least...

Creative Exercise: The Sovereign Dominion of Eyros

Lamb is the predominant food source. Most peasants are shepherd/farmers, who save the fattest and juiciest lamb of the year as an offering for the sacred lizards at the local temples.

carpedavid's Land of the Crane (Updated 11 May, 2006)

Takashi, the Monk Thanks, BSF! Without further ado, here's this week's installment: ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Takashi, a young man of 16 years, had come to the Temple of Thunder and Lightning under unfortunate circumstances. In the summer of his...
