Another thought: how should a theoretical 6E treat loot and treasure rewards? What place do piles of silver and/or magic items have in D&D going forward. Should the game be aiming for Diablo style loot drops? Or should it be minimized or excised entirely?

WotC does not set the industry standard prices. They are a complete outlier because they produce a volume an order of magnitude beyond anyone else in the industry.

I think it is important to remember that comparisons to inflation only tell part of the story. In this case, I bet tarriffs have a lot to do with it.

Sure, if your goal is to be as casual and generic a game as possible. Which WotC does, of course. But generally I think designers should design the game they want to play, and let the audience find that game. Art made for the lowest common denominator, whatever the medium, is usually shallow and...

I find it very strange that you don't see how system affects approach to the game and actual gameplay beyond "feels." But I don't want to belabor or argue about it. That's the way you see it. Fair enough.

Which other publishers? Paizo is selling rulebooks for $65, which appears to be the same price for the newest Kobold Press stuff. Monte Cook Games stuff is even more. Even the FR books from WotC are $60. $50 is not the industry standard.

YAY! I love her GMing and the weird D&D meets Escape Room vibe sounds really great. I still wish she would run stuff besides D&D though. Her style and story preferences would work so much better with Fate Accelerated or some other narrative focus games.
