D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

    Except this, apparently.

Time travel doesn't exist because time travel wiped out the timelines where it did

Interestingly, that isn't actually true. The differences are miniscule but not nonexistent. You travel through time differently on a plane versus sitting on a couch, or taking a walk versus taking the train.

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

I guess? It seems a pretty thin slice of the rules and a weirdly specific exception.

Shadowdark Best inspiration/advice for developing a Shadowdark adventure and eventual campaign?

I personally adore the random dungeon generation system. Grab a handful of dice and drop.them on a paper. Now you have a map and the high level contents of the rooms. Follow up with the tables and you have a whole dungeon. Embrace the monster mutations and rolling for NPCs. Tie it all together...

Time travel doesn't exist because time travel wiped out the timelines where it did

I think we wake up.in a parallel reality everyday. It's just that the vast majority of them are so close to the one you fell asleep in you can't tell the difference. But every once in a while you can sense it. Berenstein and all. And very, very rarely, someone lands in one that doesn't track...

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

The whole point is to bypass or circumvent the mechanics. It is a battle of wits between players and GM. Mechanics, in a perfect scenario, don't figure in at all.

Tell Us About Your Pirate Campaign(s)

At the suggestion of @Whizbang Dustyboots I am listening to the wonderful Empire of Blue Water, and (unsurprisingly) it has me thinking about TTRPG campaigns centered around pirates. So, tell us about yours! What game system did you use? Was it "realistic" from a logistics and sailing...

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

I guess it makes sense. You never know where you are going to be (in the flow of play) when you have to stop. I have been running it as one shots mostly so far, and even my campaign has been tailored so each session is an episodic adventure since our schedule is wonky. I will have to make a...

I... I did not realize that. I have been refreshing Fear and Hope at the start of each session. Huh.

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

Interestingly, this is exactly the opposite of what player skill means in the context of most discussions about it.

Either paying fear or giving hope at the moment does not make any sense. It is the end of the BBEG fight by definition, therefore very likely the end of any need for spending fear and hope for the session.

Sure, but in a supers game I kind of like a carrot more than a stick.

    Daggerheart General Thread [+]

What setting mechanics would you implement for a super-hero Daggerheart game? One thing I was thinking of is a special Death Move for villains called "No One Could Survive That" that basically compels the players to not chase down a villain. Maybe everyone gets an extra Hope at the start of the...

Time travel doesn't exist because time travel wiped out the timelines where it did

Whatever timeline you are experiencing must be the final timeline from your perspective, unless there is some mechanism by which you could perceive a different timeline. More likely, if time travel is possible, it is possible only through closed timelike curves and other artificial phenomena...

D&D General The Player's Quantum Ogre: Warlock Pacts

The more I think about the title of this thread, the less appropriate an analogy it seems. Quantum ogres are about railroading. Players don't have an equivalent power. "Don't mess with my agency" is not the same thing as "you're going to go on this adventure whether you like it or not."

How Many Conventions Did You Attend in the Last 12 Months?

Every year I attend and run games at 3 regional (USA New England) cons and sometimes hit one of the big cons (GenCon, Origins) or a smaller local con.

    What's Your Price Limit?

It is just a ballpark that I use for myself. It does not have to make sense to anyone else.

    What's Your Price Limit?

Out of curiosity, how did you land on that number? I do something similar, but I measure it against seeing a movie in the theater -- which is about 7$/hour now where I live. So if I buy an RPG (and/or also get the Fantasy grounds file) or buy a video game or whatever, I want to get cost/$7 hours...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

That was fast. Sign ups opened a half hour ago from this posting and already I have 2 slots full and only 3 seats between the other 2 slots. 3 of the players are All in, which really helps with this kind of convention mini campaign.
