Was the Death of Superman a big deal?

And the only reason his death became a big deal in the news media was that it was a slow news day when that issue hit the stands. A reeaallly slow news day.

Mike Mearls on D&D Psionics: Should Psionic Flavor Be Altered?

I dislike having the sci-fi element of psionics in my fantasy game, so he can leave the whole thing out of D&D AFAIC. And Mike apparently agrees with me, as he wants to get rid of the thing that makes psionics psionics, the pseudoscience nomenclature.

    D&D 5E (2014) PotA Weather Table

Um, when did earth tremors and rockslides become part of the weather? But yeah, (weird) weather tables, or dice (I've got a six-sider) tend to liven things up a bit.

Longshot: Looking for an old Analog/Fantasy & Science Fiction

That sounds familiar, but I wasn't into pulps (unfortunately), so don't remember when it was. But it pretty much had to be Analog if it had an F-15 on the cover.

    D&D 5E (2014) Detect magic and Gargolye

Then its magic. If you want to call it something else, you'd better inform your players, otherwise they have every right to expect something like that to ping as magical. (Unless you know that they've all carefully read through the PHB, MM, and DMG.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Detect magic and Gargolye

Yep. So many people argue that the character shouldn't know what the player does, but few ever consider the opposite. Which they should, IMNSHO.

    D&D 5E (2014) Detect magic and Gargolye

I, on the other hand, strongly disagree. Magic is magic. If you want to call it different physics or whatever, its still magic to me. YMMV ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) Dungeon Magazine-like source?

I saw that false rumors advice many years ago and took it... once. Never again! Who wants to waste half a session with the PCs going nowhere and doing nothing? My players at the time sure didn't!

    CBS-SuperGirl first look

You know my cousin's story, but you don't know mine. Yes I do, and that isn't it. Not that I'd expect it to be, since I still hold with her first intro from when I was about 10! But it looks good. Will have to try and catch it. (I hardly watch any TV anymore.)

D&D 5E (2014) Tried Speed Factor Initiative for the first time last night. Your thoughts?

Initiative is plenty metagamy enough for me. It tends to disallow obvious reactions to what's going on around the character as is. Declaring actions just makes it worse, IMO. (Joe Fighter declares that he's going to attack the Orc over there, but before his turn comes up that other Orc charges...

D&D 5E (2014) How to Handle Monster Knowledge Checks

[QUOTE=Chocolategravy;6594455]If a player knows about a fictional monster for a game, it would seem reasonable that a character would know about the actual monster that actually eats people and as an adventurer is their job to know about. When the bards come to the inn to entertain, stories of...

Dragonlance Would you allow Kender outside of Dragonlance?

[QUOTE=GMforPowergamers;6583213]Yes and if played by the right up by raw YOU would be wrong...BECUSE EVERONE LOVES THEM.... That is themain problem thesame race treated like outcast and mistrust AND the PC could learn in game and grow wouldn't be half as bad... Although that would still be a...

Dragonlance Would you allow Kender outside of Dragonlance?

Absolutely! As I've mentioned before, the first time I read about Kender (in Dragon, before Dragonlance came out) I swore a vow that any character of mine who ever came across any Kender would kill it/them on sight. Fortunately, everyone else I've ever played with wanted nothing to do with them...

D&D 5E (2014) What is required to copy a spell into a spellbook?

That's my problem. The characters LIVE in the world, so unless there's a good in-world reason for them not to know something that should be common knowledge, they should know it. "Yeah, ol sarge Previn was tough, but not tough enough to survive when his leg had to be amputated and turned bad...

D&D 5E (2014) What is required to copy a spell into a spellbook?

I'd say that it is what's in the PHB, unless you inform the players before character creation that Bad Things might happen! (I've always hated game world rules that only the GM is privy to.)

[UPDATED AGAIN!] PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE - First Review!

Back in the day I'd buy adventures just to read, even if I didn't intend to run them. But at 50 bucks a pop? NO WAY! (Don't have a group, so that's all I could do with it.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Renaming +1, +2, +3

Of course, the trope began early on when the DM was handing out +1 weapons like candy by 5th level back in the day. Who had the time and imagination to name all those magic weapons and armor? Especially when most of them would be given away. (I fondly remember equipping the entire militia of our...
