    Wolves and changing perceptions

    I blame it on Elfquest.

D&D 5E (2014) What separates a sandbox adventure from an AP?

One other thing I just thought of, that I learned the hard way. If you hand out rumors about adventure locations, make sure that there's actually an adventure there! I saw a bit of advice once saying that rumors could lead to places that didn't actually have an adventure, and thought that made...

D&D 5E (2014) What separates a sandbox adventure from an AP?

Once you get them going (you'll probably need an in-your-face plot hook or three) a good way to keep them going is to find more plot hooks as they go along. Maps, prisoners with some info on a potential adventure, etc. Also, don't neglect NPCs. The occasional Patron is to be expected, but don't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Creating a Calendar

Yeah, I had the same reaction as Rem, now that I think about it. As for a year, something memorable, like 1066 or 1492, might do the job.

D&D 5E (2014) DMs: How Old Are You?

At 65 I'm the oldest one here... so far. But I'd never even heard of RPGs until I was nearly 30, in '78 or '79. Never married, no kids. Also haven't played in about 5 years, but I keep hoping! But I've been lucky in that I've been able to play about as often as I've DMed.

    D&D 5E (2014) Creating a Calendar

I like to keep things simple. A 13 month year of 28 day months, made up of four 7 day weeks. 364 days, and the lunar cycles follow the month. (The four phases of the moon all fall on... Moonday!) As for what year it is, I'd advise sticking to a universal dating system using whatever rational...

D&D 5E (2014) Now THIS would make a fun dungeon crawl

Well, there's always fire and acid and such. :) But speaking of mazes, one of the most frustrating things I found when watching the movie Labyrinth was wanting to reach in and shake Jennifer Connoly (sp?) while yelling at her: "Climb, you stupid twit, CLIMB!!!" Outdoor mazes aren't nearly as...

    Remembering STAR TREK Roleplaying Games

Like several others, I had the FASA stuff, but didn't get to play with it very often. But one of my fondest memories of that time was a short lived Klingon game we played. The assassination of the captain, who had contingency plans in place, caused the campaign to crash and burn - but it was one...

D&D 5E (2014) Now THIS would make a fun dungeon crawl

They're bushes. The PCs have axes and swords. What's the problem?

    D&D 5E (2014) Semi-sandbox product I'd love to see

Quite so. I'd certainly buy more like Phandelver, but I'd never buy an Adventure Path. They just don't fit my style of play.

Darn! The original rock n' roll feminist. But I guess its our turn to cry.

    D&D 5E (2014) What Do Dwarves Eat?

They eat Elves! But mostly giant mushrooms, cave crickets, and other monsters. The various fungi are probably what their bread is made from. IMO.

    Australian TV Talks D&D!

It made me cringe too. I suspect that either they asked him to wear it, or he mistakenly thought it would look cool. :(

    Australian TV Talks D&D!

A bit odd that they mentioned a revival of interest, but not the new edition. On the other hand, good press is good press!

D&D 5E (2014) A contradiction in spell scroll entries in the DMG?

I'd rule that page 200 is correct. If they can't be bothered to put all the information about something in one place /and/ make it clear, I can't be bothered to try and figure out what they ment. Besides, I prefer rules that make the PCs more Heroic. After all, I can always use more monsters, or...

D&D 5E (2014) Is a dwarf wizard still "playing against type"?

Quite so. it was the Dwarves who made Thor's hammer, Odin's spear, and pretty much every other magic item for the Norse gods.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E demographics

The OP is also forgetting that for quite a few campaigns, dropping dead at level 10+ isn't necessarily the end of the character, what with Raise Dead and all. (And when did our world hit 1 billion? Sometime in the 1800s?)
