    What is the Sundering?

The youtube version is up as well. That one should play alright.

    What is the Sundering?

This is from a thread in the Candlekeep forums. Official news: No retcons, no reboots. Gods are coming back. The worlds are coming apart again. The Spellplague is being solved. Lore support for multiple eras is on the table. Other news: Haunted Halls of Eveningstar may get a...

    D&D 5E (2014) Backstage at D&D Next Keynote...

Though there wasn't a lot of new info, the stuff they did tell us, makes me feel like they have a solid plan and they're serious about executing it properly. For me, that's a big change from last year where it seemed like WoTC was spinning it's wheels and had no real plan on where to take D&D...

Future of D&D Keynote Speech [UPDATE - with video!]

Good on WoTC for taking the time to do things right. I was worried that if they were to launch D&D Next in 2013 they would have to cut corners and rush.

    D&D 5E (2014) Backstage at D&D Next Keynote...

Well, the Forgotten Realms was already sundered once when Ao split the world into two for both the Gods and the Primordial. What if it happened again? It would let them to split the world into several pieces/timelines. Thus allowing what happens in say, Realms A (Book series realms) affecting...

    D&D 5E (2014) Backstage at D&D Next Keynote...

My company has live streams a few times a week. So we're used to it. But, when we first started out we had our ups and downs. Not to mention the amount of pressure on us when something went wrong and we fell behind schedule several minutes. Wizards definitely has my sympathies here.

    Zenimax files trademark for "Dragonborn"

Actually, I was playing the Elder Scrolls series lately (both Oblivion and Morrowind) and Dragonborn is mentioned in both. Surprised the heck out of me. Not sure about the earlier games though.

Wait For An End of Summer Play-Test?

Well, D&D Next is at least a year away, and depending on how many moving parts they want to have a decent test of, they may even be opting for a 40th Anniversary Roll-out. I'm not sure how Wizards is planning on doing it, but I've been in online game alphas/betas that lasted nearly two years...

    D&D 3.x 3.5 Edition Reprints

This is what I'd like to see. Especially since they're so intent on giving 5e a lighter release schedule then 4e. There should be plenty of months were a 5e product won't be scheduled for released, but a favorite 1e or 3e book getting republished that month can fill that gap nicely. Supporting...

    First Impressions?

So far I like it. It's exactly what they said they were shooting for. Really simple core, looks like D&D. There are some funky things in the rules that need to be ironed out, but it's a playtest. Also. I do like how they've changed surges to seem less gamey.

    Zenimax files trademark for "Dragonborn"

Not surprising given that Zenimax has proven to be pretty scummy in the legal arena. Like them trying to stop Notch from naming his new game "Scrolls" or trying to convince the court that they only licensed the name "Fallout" to Interplay for an MMO, and not the actual setting.

D&D 5E (2014) Any fluff from various editions you want to see carried forward in 5e?

Actually this makes me want the Player's Handbook to have each chapter use iconics with a classic module theme for the art. Chapter 1: Art shows the iconics at key moments in Keep on the Borderlands. Chapter 2: The art is based on the iconics visiting the Moathouse or first level of...

D&D 5E (2014) Any fluff from various editions you want to see carried forward in 5e?

I could do without ever again seeing the phrase "Points of Light" in another D&D book. Seriously, I liked the concept, but they repeated the phrase throughout the 4e line ad nauseam.

    Ooh new shiny Edition!!!!!

I'm looking forward to 5e because, while I loved every edition of D&D I've played, I've had issues with all of them. I know I'll have issues with 5e (no game is perfect after all). BUT, I'm hoping being able to switch out, add, or remove rules modules will help mitigate most issues I'll have...

    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

Agreed. The fact that there will be separate tiers of classes(maybe races as well?) and the game is being pushed as being super moduler will help drive home they are optional. Part of playing a moduler game means accepting not every rules module will be meant for you and your groups play-style.

    D&D 5E (2014) The classes of 5e (now with 90% less speculation)

I'm sure they all won't be. I do fully expect classes to take up a lot less room then 4e. I'm pretty sure the martial arts module they spoke of before is actually a martial powers plug-in. It would make sense for the module to act more like spell lists in older editions with some classes having...

    January Dragon & Dungeon Content

I think Warrens of the Stone Giant Thane is supposed to be abnormally large (for a dungeon adventure).

    WotC's Annual Xmas Layoffs

Rich Baker was one of the people behind the 4E Forgotten Realms revision. In fact, him, along with the Phil Athans and Bruce Cordell did the initial draft of the 4e Story Bible, which contained the much maligned Spellplague idea. So yeah, he may not have backed everything 4E, but he was...

I don't get the dislike of healing surges

One thing to keep in mind was that Hit Points were only abstract as far as Character Classes were concerned. For monsters they did in fact, represent it's health. That kind of double standard definitely had a hand in equating all hit points = heath. Though I think this way was more satisfying...

    Monte Cook back at wizards

Very good point. I think our idea of it may be a bit skewed since we've seen so many edition war threads around here. But I can tell you I've purchase pathfinder rpg books and am still primarily playing 4e, still have my sub to insider so I'm not a lost customer. I do feel sometimes I am an...
