D&D Video Game and Movie Rights

That's not quite correct, things such as creature design in games need WotC's approval unless they directly copy the Monster Manuals art for the creature. If they do change the look of a monster, it needs to be sent to WotC and approved, which can take some time, and thus, isn't an optimal route...

    Backdrop - Mistwatch article up

Good article. Even has a nice map in it as well. :) Does anyone wonder if we're seeing the first of the cancelled book to --> Insider article right here? After all, the Nentir Vale book disappeared off the WotC and Amazon site before the other (now more infamous) books did. I hope so, it...

D&D Video Game and Movie Rights

There's also Daggerdale game coming out. The most interesting thing about that may be the mention of Nentir Vale in the announcement. Either it's a mistake or they've decided to locate the Forgotten Realms version of Nentir Vale in the Daggerdale region.

Ok, now i'm REALLY CONFUSED. AKA, do any of you think you know what WotC is doing?

I seriously doubt they would sell the D&D brand. The most I could see them doing is licensing the RPG rights out. And though my first choice for that would be Paizo, I have my doubts they would want to bother licensing D&D when their own IP is doing so well on it's own.

Ampersand to reveal mystery of the disappearing books (apparently)

Seems like a pretty lame reason to not compile a magazine at the end of the month. I'm not sure how they think this is really serving their customers better. It just seems Wizards is really lost lately. They've had some rough times over the past couple of years, and now, they just can't get...

D&D Video Gaming News - Hasbro sues for breach of contact by Atari

You know, after a while you think that Atari would get the point and let the development teams actually finish the games they're making instead of pushing them out the door just to grab whatever sales they can. Of course, that goes for the whole industry, but ToEE not getting the attention and...

    Spaghetti Sauce

I was impressed enough with his talk, that I looked up the book he mentions writing, Blink. At his site he mentions growing his hair long and some of the rather negative snap judgments people have about him because of it. Anyways, thanks for the post Sadrik, have some xp!

    Spaghetti Sauce

I thought the video was fascinating. I'm just wondering how much harder it would be for one company to apply that to a role-playing game. After all, creating three flavors of D&D is one thing. but having to continually support and develop several lines could be much more costly and could be...

    Alignment Languages?

*Flails arms about wildly* *Touches nose* *Does the Hustle* For those who don't know, I'm using the Chaotic Neutral alignment language right now.

Was AD&D1 designed for game balance?

EDIT: Got the wrong quote at first. I are dumb. Sorry :) I think that it's just the nature of supplements in general. power creep was definitely a problem in the later stages of 1e, but they were much worse in the later stages of 2e. Not to mention 3rd edition also had this problem. And I have...

Word of Mearls: Official Player races will not get Oversized Weapons. Forked Thread

Isn't that pretty much how they were being represented before the books even came out? I recall hearing that there would be write-ups for some monsters, but they would be incomplete and not heavily tested, but given as an option for people who *really* wanted more choices from the get-go...

Doh! Still, I like B/X too. Thanks for clearing that up.

3E & 4E Love and Hate Polls - What does it mean?

I didn't know that! I gotta go check that out, thanks. Honestly, it really is a good time to be a D&D player in general. :)

3E & 4E Love and Hate Polls - What does it mean?

What?? You're telling me the Time magazine poll that voted the creator of 4chan the most influential person in the world isn't scientifically meaningful?? :p For reference: The World's Most Influential Person Is... - TIME I just wish people would give the whole edition war thing a rest. Just...

4E - 18 Months Later: Love it or hate it?

I like it, but there are things that bother me. But the same goes for third edition, Castles & Crusades, and just about any RPG I enjoy. I'm really looking forward to seeing what computer games are developed for it, since an rpg with the story and exploration of a Baldur's Gate game mixed with...

    Things that WOW didn't invent

True =) I recall a minor controversy early on, with people accusing EQ of using Dikumud code, since many of the commands, emotes, etc... were the same. Of course that had a lot to do with Brad McQuaid being a huge fan of TorilMUD*. *Hey we wrapped right back around to D&D (well sort of) :p

    Things that WOW didn't invent

Actually, using aggro for real people is something I first saw in Everquest around 2001. EQ also had a command called "Consider" that gave you information on how powerful a mob was in comparison to you, as well as how they felt about you (friendly, neutral, dubious, etc...). A common excuse to...

    Things that WOW didn't invent

Yes, but there's a huge difference between being handy about the house, and making numerous wacky streampunk or magitech devices, constructions, ships, etc... which is what Dragonlance Tinker Gnomes do. And it's exactly what WoW Gnomes are like.

    Things that WOW didn't invent

Dragonlance's tinker gnomes are the one's that put that trope on the map.
