That's pretty much exactly how it was for me. Prostate cancer was especially tough for me even though I knew it has a very high survivability rate. The primary treatment has a pretty good chance of leaving you sterile...which is fine for 95% of the patients who are 65+, but pretty devestating...

Greyhawk hands down. If there is a single setting that C&C fits perfectly it's Greyhawk. If you are going all-out Warhammer, then there are D20/OGL products that do a better job of mimicking it's idiosyncrasies.

Going over some ground already covered but anyways... If you are a fan of Fallout as well as GW, then Darwin's World (2nd Edition) is the book that you want. The GW PHB is by far the worst book in the line. If you like it the rest of the GW line will blow your socks off, if you don't like it...

Because when you grow up you just may find out that stooping to an even lower level accomplishes nothing besides make you look the fool. Well that certainly justifies wishing death upon an individual doesn't it?

From a rules standpoint, since you are already familliar with M&M you might want to consider taking a look at The Nocturnals & Noir...M&M Annual #1 also has some bits that might be of help.
