There is nothing absurd about a 8th level party encountering a CR 8 creature but there is about a creature that was initially very rare and only found in the abyss and has a very deadly power. The CR system is not exactly an exact science.

Oh, I did find a paladin varient in Dragon #306 that substituites all abilities that use Chr for Wis instead which would give the same result in revearse, which is fine cause then I can pair it up with a cleric. You have to be a paladin of Rao however and I have no idea who that is.

I won't speak for Thurebane but I personally think the BoNS has a lot of ways to abuse the game. It might be good in theory but like any new system there will be things that need adjustment. Personally I hope that D&D isn't heading this way but we will see. That, however, is a whole other thread.

I was looking for some paladin stuff and I ran across an article for Grey Hawk paladins in issue of Dragon #306. It mentions a God named Rao and his paladins powers, but I can't find any further information about him. Is there more out there? Does he go by a different name?

I think after looking it over I agree. The BoNS I think is abusive, but that is just MPO.

I'll check that out too. I'll have to stop by our local hobby shop, I don't have that book either.
