Depending on how you do stats, rolling or point buy (I prefer rolling), I think Initiative is key. From my limited experience playing a wizard in 4e, you really need to go first to make sure everyone else is out of the way, otherwise you are hitting friendlies.

I usually DM too, but I get a rare chance to play so I thought I would try out the ranger. PHB races only, but no fun ones like tiefling, dragonborn or Eladrin. For the others Regaurding weapons, why would you take a Khopesh? Why not spend a feat so you can use a Craghammer?

Okay, I see it. I don't understand why the Khopesh is in the axe group either. It doesn't say you can use it as an off-hand weapon though, so how can you use it in both hands?
