    Let's all run a module

I'm interested, but I only have a single 3.5 campaign, so it would be limited by how it fit into my game and how close it was to the right levels - too much tweaking of CRs spoils the soup, I've found.

    Horse nomads

Hey BG; 1. Genghis Khan and the Mongol Empire - it's short, it's cheap (cover: 12.95), and it's full of illustrations and references. By Jean-Paul Roux, published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. 2. A Short History of Bysantium - touches on the hordes as seen from the western view - by John Julius...

    So we're expecting a baby...

Congratulations to both of you!! I have three children - 12, 16, and 18. Gaming is just a part of our life. Early on it was something "the adults" did, and reverse psychology made it something they wanted to do. Not something we set out to accomplish, but it happens like that. Our son (the 18...

    Suspension of Disbelief

I think you're both missing the point that without competition, humanity does tend to stagnate. The civilizations that went through long periods without large technological change, historically speaking, were somewhat isolationist - either by choice or geography, and relatively peaceful. Even...

    Immersion, Stance, and Playstyle Discussion

Agreed. I don't hassle them though, I lead by making the key NPCs individualized in some way - a manner of speech, an accent, a twitch, one even has glasses (when I put on the glasses and run them down to the end of my nose they go "Hey! That's so and so!" It works for some, others are a...

    More time gaming or ENWorlding?

Definitely gaming. ENWorld is nothing but a tool to support that sport. Though I'm not at all surprised by the number of answers that say "More time on ENWorld".

    Official Nostalgia Thread (thread necromancy)

    91. Skills where those optional things that freaks used from Unearthed Arcana and the Survival Guides, real players didn't need 'em. 92. Feats were what your character did in his lifetime, not the definition of what he could have done.

    Official Nostalgia Thread (thread necromancy)

Hey! This was important in a world where we were portrayed as vile, evil devil worshippers by the ever-accurate and vigilant press! I picked up one of my best gaming groups because I guy looked at me and said "Wow, working here must be like the Slave Pits of the Undercity." I cocked an...

Real tale of Old School feel?

And they didn't in "the old days" either. That's the point all of this misses - Chateau was a light-hearted side-trip, not the standard old-school module. If we wanna pick a single module that feels "wrong" to some people, the current edition will loose just because of the volume of modules...

D&D players, tell me about your HARP games

Sorry Rasyr, re-reading the rules now, first game in a few weeks. (yeah, you guys got me to look at it again :D). So I have nothing to add except "Yup, Sounds right, uHuH..."

    Official Nostalgia Thread (thread necromancy)

There were no official critical hit rules, but everyone just doubled damage on a natural 20. Of course, some doubled dice, others doubled totals, but "Meh! What's a few points here or there?"

    Too many RPGs out there?

There are plenty where I am, but this does segue into a rant I saw on another board the other day... Are there too many games? In the sense that the number of players available is not growing at the rate new games are? Yes. This matters in the marketplace (so went the rant) because many of...

Do you read non-RPG fantasy novels?

I agree on the "RPG-related" thing. Most RPG-related by this definition sucks. But if you read The Deed of Paksenarrion closely, it appears to have been a campaign, so there are exceptions. I write in my primary world (though in the world is not about campaigns, which I think matters). As to...

How did you learn how to play?

:DThat's pretty much what I was thinking. Except I was introduced by a friend, then wheedled my parents until they loaned me the twelve bucks for the basic set.

I have to agree. I like an occasional puzzle as much as the next guy, but he is definitely asking too much of you.

    Suspension of Disbelief

The worst for me is when the players aren't in synch. Style of play being different is the worst, but even level of comedy and joking being off hurts. As the GM I feel kind of responsible for them all to have some amount of fun, but some nights you can tell in the first twenty minutes it is not...

How long do your gaming sessions last?

Like Aeson, it varies with group, and more hours != more gaming. One regular group runs 7p-12 or 1 am, gets little done. One regular group runs 1p-6p, gets quite a bit done. One regular group runs 7-2am gets a TON done. Others are irregular, and tend to run 4-6 hours.

D&D 4E The Daily "4e is Coming! Theory" Thread

But then you'd need a more differenter name for the DMG - like MS has done with "Longhorn ==> Vista on the desktop and Server 2007 on the server"... So that's one name to start, two to finish. And of course if we followed the MS model, the dice would have to be built into the books and you...

RPG systems you liked -- much to your surprise

I just agreed to a Shadowrun game this weekend. Never played before, never even read the books... Not a fan of the genre, but doing a friend a favor and letting him "warm up" with us newb runners. Maybe I'll have to come back after Saturday and add it to my list

    Character Equality

I answered other, it just doesn't matter. The fact is that balance is not as important as some people think it is. It's a game, one where you play to have fun. Obsession with balance can cause problems with your enjoyment. Just roll the &$^%^ dice!
