WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

Canute was calling out his suck-up councillors in the actual story so not the best example.

WotC: 'We made a mistake when we said an image not AI'

Yeah, I mean based on the very vague definition that is being used, the "clone stamp" is not far off being "AI". I think as long as its not stealing another artist's work (ie the training data) then it should be legit. The real solution to this, of course, is to enforce that the AI companies...

D&D General Would you buy an AI-generated Castle Greyhawk "by" Gary Gygax?" Should you?

I don't know if Gary was as fond of the "noun adjective noun" naming scheme as the AI likes to presume here. And the Gary of Tscojanth/Isle of the Ape is a lot different from the Castle Greyhawk Gary. Check out the infodump in the beginning of Isle of the Ape and think if that reads as "sparse"...

D&D General Would you buy an AI-generated Castle Greyhawk "by" Gary Gygax?" Should you?

In all seriousness...nah. WG7 is a stupid module but stupid in that way that a bunch of humans making puns wherever they can are, not stupid as-in "here's a computer trying to approximate human creativity and producing something incredibly banal" I can guarantee you couldn't get AI to generate...

D&D General Would you buy an AI-generated Castle Greyhawk "by" Gary Gygax?" Should you?

Most of what you're saying is fine but just one point is that we don't actually have a Castle Zagyg - because Troll Lords never got to actually publishing anything about the actual castle before Gary died (except Yggsburgh and the "Upper Works")....

But basically that isn't AI-written, that's "Grodog" written.

Let’s feed in Cyborg Commando and see what we get,

D&D General Would you buy an AI-generated Castle Greyhawk "by" Gary Gygax?" Should you?

Once they feed in the Rothfuss learning data the machine will procrastinate, get angry at fans, set up a scam charity then waste time live-streaming computer games.

They used technology to extract a up until now impossible to extact but genuine vocal track of John Lennon's, added it to a guitar track that Harrison had already recorded, and got McCartney and Starr to record new parts. No bit of that was "ai-generated". It would be akin to scanning in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shattered Obelisk - Zorzula's Rest and other problems

WoTC is in an ongoing fight between Schley-stye and Dyson-style maps. With the former they are pretty, but needlessly unclear when they get complicated. Dyson's are simpler, but people on virtual tabletops dislike them for being boring and monochromatic.

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

Yes, usually because taking money without offering anything in return is theft and that’s a crime? Not sure of your point.

WotC [Updated!] Hasbro Laying Off 1,100 Employees

People don't set up companies to "provide goods and services". You can do that via a charity if you are so inclined. People set up a company to make a profit. Yes. But they still want to make profit. Over and over in this thread I see people conflating what they want from WoTC as a customer...

Tolkien fanfic writer sues Tolkien estate over copyright

It appears to be a sequel rather than a prequel of the LOTR, so why is he is focusing on Rings of Power unless the complaint is "its set in Tolkien's world which is actually mine now and hence even more an insane lawsuit.

D&D 4E Bridging the cognitive gap between how the game rules work and what they tell us about the setting

I understand HP on a sort of a proportional level. If you want to know how injured someone is in D&D you look at their loss of HP as a percentage of their total. So a fighter who has 80 of 90 hp left is fairly unharmed, whereas a wizard who has 2 of 12 hp left is just hanging on, even though...
