Planescape The New Planescape Adventure Sounds Awfully Familiar

I'll make assumptions based on WotC's track record and stated goals.

I'll just leave you to mumble your koans in peace I guess.

Did I say copy his style? Read what I wrote, not what you think I wrote.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you think they will add more races to PHB2024 to make up for dropping other stuff?

The changes were done because of this: 1) People are mad at us. (Racial politics) 2) We don't understand what people are mad about (Clueless executives) 3) We have to do something (Avoid bad press) 4) This is something. (Pointless action)

D&D 5E (2014) D&D's Classic Settings Are Not 'One Shots'

@Ruin Explorer I am probably diamatrically opposed to you politically but I have to agree with you on Radiant Citadel (which I own), what's most amusing to me is that for a book of "diverse" settings, most of them seem to have some sort of colonial power lurking in the background and two of them...

Planescape The New Planescape Adventure Sounds Awfully Familiar

Just after I wrote "soulless nostalgia" in the other thread. WoTC, you never fail to disappoint.

My bad, my brain was thinking "Spiderwick" but I wrote "Nodwick", must've been the old Dragon magazine I read this morning. Yes, mid 90s DiTerlizzi is iconic to Planescape. Modern DiTerlizzi is a much more accomplished artist, but his style has changed. People seem to think I think his art is...

It doesn't really tell me how the settings evolved at all, since any design decisions will be entirely divorced from DiTerlizzi's art process. So, no, that doesn't really follow, I'm sorry.

Imagine if you'd chosen a new artist who could capture the same sort of feeling that you get when you first saw that art on the Planescape box set, rather than just selecting the person who did it before.

    D&D 5E (2014) Thievery in 5e - still relevant?

All good points, and part of the problem is that real use for currency in our own world (property, security and safety) doesn't appeal to a lot of players. Plenty of characters seem content to basically live what would be a rather unpleasant vagabond lifestyle despite being laden with precious...

So why are we getting diTerlizzi back? You think Gen Z are like, "Oh yeah, the Nodwick guy, ideal guy to do Planescape art." The only reason to have him doing the cover as opposed to any other artist is because he did it in the 90s, isn't it?

Controversial opinion: I don't see the point of getting Diterlizzi to do the Art. His stuff doesn't look like it did in the 90s anymore. All I can see is Nodwick now, especially that very cutesy Lady of Pain.

Are people under the impression 2E gave you good use for gold anymore than 5E? 1E, sure, because of XP for gold. 3E, sure because of magic item crafting expenses.... 2E didn't. But people found uses for it.

    D&D 5E (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

Why should every encounter be deadly? Do that at low levels and you're almost odds-on to kill them when an enemy gets a crit.

    D&D 5E (2024) Limiting Short Rests to 2x/day

LOL, mine are 7 days. But that's not for anyone... but regardless, most of the complaints about D&D (difficult level) stem around long rests being too frequent.
