Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

I’m pretty sure you vastly misunderstood both Tolkien and his core beliefs if that’s what you got from his writings. He also was pretty well known for not thinking of his works as allegorical.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Except that D&D goblins/hobgoblins have almost nothing to do with traditional mythological goblins? You might as well start calling D&D medusa "gorgons" because that's what they are in myth.

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Up until a few years ago goblins had zero ties to the Feywild yet are now fey, I'd say that doesn't really make any sort of logical sense except in the idea "goblins in real world myth are connected to fey, so we made them fey."

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Yeah, so why the whole "we're doing this because it's how players are using them" gaslighting? Just come out and say, "We are changing them to fey because we like that better."

Not in the way it was marketed (you'd be hooning around Avernus in them like Fury Road)

"We changed them to Fey because we changed them to Fey".

    D&D 5E (2024) Fey Video Critique & Alternate Perspective

Remember the Mad Max war machines that dominated marketing for Descent into Avernus, yet were remarkably absent in the actual adventure?

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

It was irrelevant to my point (having stats for various humanoid and or PC race enemies is useful), so, yeah, I saw it in bad faith. (Unless WoTC can't write an entry for humans without it being racist?)

Are Orcs in the Monster Manual? No and Yes.

"Fully Playable means you don't appear in the Monster Manual." I have to say I think this is frankly pretty silly, and 2E worked perfectly fine having orcs, elves and even humans in the Monstrous Manual.

Dragonlance "You walk down the road, party is now level 2."

Interestingly I've actually had success with using a hybrid milestone/XP levelling system. Yes, as weird as that sounds.

D&D Adds Two New Books to 2025 Slate, Including New Eberron Book

There's certainly elements enforced on Eberron which Baker isn't shy about voicing dislike for, and for good reason. (Baator in 4E, the multiverse, non Eberron elements popping up in Eberron, pretty much half of the 3E Faiths of Eberron etc). I trust WoTC with Eberron only as long as Baker is...

D&D General Greyhawk fans - How to fit older modules with Age of Worms

Tenser's appearance in Age of Worms is very clearly modelled after the art in Return of the Eight, I also notice.

There's definitely a link to Maure castle - Dragotha's horde in Age of Worms has one of the triangle pieces from the teleporter in Maure Castle.

I've seen people play truncated versions that end after the demon ruling the Isle of Dread is killed, seems like a good place to finish it if you don't want the high level stuff. The other option is ending with Vanthus' first death.

    D&D 5E (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

No, the conceit about shoe-horning a joint cosmic origin for things that were never intended that way is ridiculous.

    D&D 5E (2024) Humanoids in the MM...

All of the legacy settings (ie from pre 5E) should have their own lore and changes on types that suit them more than vanilla 5E. Of course, that doesn't go with the Crawford maxim or this ridiculous First World concept...

Look at this way, there giving you a reason to keep your 2014 MM.

D&D General Greyhawk fans - How to fit older modules with Age of Worms

True, Savage Tide is effectively three campaigns: Sasserine, Isle of Dread and Abyss, and there is certainly a bait and switch in the change between the first two. I think when I run Savage Tide with this group I will do a few things: 1) Add in a few more adventures before they leave Sasserine...

Yep, holding on to the whole Age of Worms/Savage Tide run is the best decision I ever made. Running Age of Worms now in 5E, will do Savage Tide after its finishes. The players are having a ball.
