    D&D 5E (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Don't generally? 5E has made a habit of it!

D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

This is why clerics should be tied to religions not gods. The silly way D&D has done it has always led to confusion. A religion can have an alignment, ethos, and beliefs, a deity shouldn't.

D&D General The purpose of deity stats in D&D.

Sort of. How falliable and human gods act is the defining change between the classical religions (BC - ie reco-Roman, Egyptian, Sumerian, Ancient Indian, Ancient Hebrew etc) and the post-antiquity faiths (AD, ie post-Exile Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism, Buddhism etc)...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Weirdly my other post either vanished or I didn't actually post what I thought... "Antioch" is named for "Antiochus", which is the same situation as "Geoff/Geoffrey", basically, so the name's not that strange.

There's historical precedent with places named after nicknames rather than proper names. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sheikhupura

I like that Bucknard even matches up to his appearance in Age of Worms. Great attention to detail.

You did actually read what was changed right? it was more than "a few names".

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Oh, thanks for reminding me about the terrible gender-swapped names in the Ravenloft setting too. (lol Viktra....)

They've also rejected a fair bit of pre 1985 Greyhawk as well. Might as well call it Fauxhawk.

D&D General Why Were the Dragon and Dungeon Magazines Discontinued?

Forums are also going extinct though, that's why all the big websites like WoTC don't run any themselves anymore.

D&D General Why Were the Dragon and Dungeon Magazines Discontinued?

A lot of the joy of "lore", of course doesn't exist now in 5E where settings are no longer living things but static flavours that are often mangled beyond recognition compared to their pre 5E incarnations.

D&D 5E (2024) Did you make up your mind about 5.24?

You actually get the same problem but flipped in Japanese manga, where Japanese writers and artists have Catholic nuns jumping around like Shinto shrine maidens.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Oh that was pretty apparent a while ago - when Mearls left D&D (long before he left Wizards) was when the inherent attitude of the D&D design team started to change.

D&D 5E (2024) Did you make up your mind about 5.24?

Yeah I was more speaking lore, the mechanics are basically written as to not require gods at all, but all D&D pantheons are set up as if they are modern religions wearing a few trappings of polytheisms (in effect, modern pagan revivals) The Temple of the Olympian Zeus was big because it had to...

D&D 5E (2024) Did you make up your mind about 5.24?

More that it treats temples like church for mosques rather than, say what we might consider a temple to Zeus.

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

I think it's more likely that we'll never see it again after the 2024 DMG.

D&D 5E (2024) Did you make up your mind about 5.24?

D&D is terrible at modelling polytheism (ie ancient and classical religions) and strangely reluctant to fix it by just going ahead and actually having some monotheistic religions (late antiquity and later faiths). You know how nearly every D&D religion has a temple that you go and pray inside...

Dungeons & Dragons May Not Come Back to Greyhawk After 2024 Dungeon Master's Guide

Oh you mean they arbitrarily and for no reason completely broke Greyhawk's timeline? Put NPCs in time periods they didn't belong in? Completely changed NPCs so they share only a name with their previous incarnation? Ravenloft says hello!
