What's the MPAA rating of this game? I'm looking for a game for my 14-year-old.

What's really at stake in the Edition Wars

I'd have to differ with that. RPGnet's "D&D/D20 Fantasy forum" has a rabidly hostile anti-3.5/pathfinder contingent that will, given the chance, invade any thread about 3.5 and/or pathfinder as a chance to recite their screed while trying to stay within the lines of moderation. Just like here...

Best 3.0/3.5 adventures from Small Publishers?

Well, I did see Fiery Dragon stuff in the FLGS... and got my NeMoren's vault and a few other things there. But I can definitely second Fiery's Dragons NeMoren's Vault and Of Sound Mind. They also had a nice flip-module To Stand on Hallowed Ground. I dug Enigma of the Arcanexus by the short...

    Flip mats?

I love mine. Use it constantly. Portability + Erasability = WIN. Sadly, I have a pre-paizo mat with Hex on one side and Square on the other. Some coffee got spilled on it and it started to separate at the edge. I went to go buy a replacement and Paizo doesn't offer a flip map with the hex grid. :(

Pathfinder 1E What kind of Pathfinder Psionics would you like to see from Paizo?

I don't mind the idea of a dedicated Psionics setting (and Dreamscarred put out a nice one), but AFAIAC, put Psionics in a regular D&D game seemed to add a sense of wonder and mystery for my less familiar players, so I wouldn't dismiss it.

Pathfinder 1E What kind of Pathfinder Psionics would you like to see from Paizo?

Power points, a la 3.5. I found most prior systems that used power points alongside the magic system but that didn't use the magic system structure to be problematic. 2e psionics, I'm looking at you. 3.5 was pretty good, the main sore spot being some powers (much the same as magic, really). The...

    This mentality needs to die

This is a bit of a tangent, but basically, if you roll a threat (normally a 20), you have the option to spend one or more action dice to invoke a critical success. Effects of the critical success vary, and in some cases are left up to the GM. In the case of a jump check, a critical gets you the...

    This mentality needs to die

Um, has anyone here taken the stance that this is the problem? If so, I missed it. This sounds like a bit of a strawman. Most people who have taken in consideration what darkfire is--it does no damage, ergo a heatless fire--said that they would have ruled likewise. I do disagree that you call...

    This mentality needs to die

(Quoting posts that led to this point to provide context) Er, was this supposed to be somehow related to my post which you quoted? To answer your question generally: if it seems like fun to you, you are doing it right (for you). But obviously, a lot of us saw that specific bit as being...

    This mentality needs to die

One reason why I lean to Fantasy Craft over either these days.

    Mastercraft & Spycraft

Yep, Spycraft will be around, and there are more books for it in the hopper. Mastercraft isn't THAT dissimilar from Spycraft 2.0, but it's a bit slimmer. I do like the way they did some things in Fantasy Craft better (like the way conditions work for subdual and stress damage) and put those in...

Are Any Pre-4e Books Essential Reading?

Some of the books that have been listed you might have trouble getting a hold of, as WotC ceased selling prior edition PDFs, and the rarer ones can get pricey second hand. But if you happen across them, here are a few pre-4e edition books I always keep handy because of the inspiration they...

    This mentality needs to die

Wow. That was a prime example of what I am talking about in my sig... letting the rules use you. Now it may well be that it is, by concept, not a valid use of the power if it represents some life-sapping ability. But from appearances, that's not what was going on there. Perkins specifically...

PM: Off the Edge of the Map (Fantasy Craft) (OPEN SPOTS!)

And in! I'm going to try to nail down the character concepts over the weekend. Any early preferences? (It might affect the chargen.)

    I've experienced D&D4

Bullgrit... I think shifting your actual opinion to your blog has only proven a minor speedbump for those who feel that "someone is wrong on the internet", but let me say I share your feelings. At least you gave the game the old college try, eh?

Hero System Vs. Mutants & Masterminds. Which is the better super-hero game?

IMO, Hero is better for character design. M&M is better in play. If that makes any sense. And that is not necessarily saying that makes M&M better. It really does matter what you are after. Though, FWIW, Ultimate Power does give M&M some HERO mojo.

What a great storytelling DM looks like

This is a big gun (perhaps The Big Gun) in my adventure design arsenal. This advice is echoed by an excellent post by Evil Hat's Fred Hicks about the Secret Language of Character Sheets. Players will generally choose to make characters that can do things that they find fun. So you, as a GM...

What a great storytelling DM looks like

I agree. Tav could have a good discussion here, but I'm having trouble hearing over the sound of my internal voices debating his definitions. ;)
