    D&D Economics

Heya! Actually, the farmer using the DMG2 rules *loses* about 20 gp per month. I'd be happy if he just broke even paying for his living and upkeep. Another thing I'm adding is the use of Diplomacy to sell goods. After all, if you could unload 50,000 gp of stuff in an hour in town, not only...

    Negative spell slots

There's a more elegant way to try to do this ... If a sorcerer uses up their complement of spells, or they want to cast a spell that they no longer have slots for (ie a 3rd level spell), they may continue to cast, but each spell they cast gains them a negative level. With a negative level...

    Campaign House Feats - Reasonable?

In my campaign, I give out a limited number of Action Points per level, and they are bankable (start with 3, gain 2 per level, if you get your character raised from the dead, gain 1d6 AP). I gave those luck feats an additional 1-2 action points. In my game, AP are rare, and I use them for...

    Making Magic Mysterious

Is that like the magic system published in the Black Company Campaign Setting?

    Campaign House Feats - Reasonable?

I find the Luck feats from Complete Scoundrel a nice idea, but horribly underpowered -- I don't know anyone who would look forward to taking those feats. As a side note, to make them more palatable in my game, I gave all the luck feats the added feature of granting extra Action Points.

    Campaign House Feats - Reasonable?

Hey guys, I'm looking at running a home campaign version of Curse of the Crimson Throne, and I've written up a few feats. The background fluff will be gibberish to most of you, but I'm interested in your feedback on the power-levels/reasonableness of these feats -- too much? Too little...

    D&D Economics

Thanks! I was a contributor to the HarnManor rules ... I'm not going to get a realitic medieval model -- and I'm not trying to. D&D is far beyond the pale of reality. But I want to make a working model. If I can. In my game, it takes time to aquire high-value items, and there isn't a...

    D&D Economics

It's funny .. the D&D price guides may be removed by a few generations, but the original AD&D equipment list prices was based in part on medieval prices for goods and services. Games that have more directly drawn on medieval economics (HarnMaster) are not that far off of D&D. For example, in...

    D&D Economics

Oh, to follow up my argument above, here's my attempt to 'break' my house rule. Baldo Gutbarrel is the finest barrister in the city. He's a 10th level expert with 13 ranks in Profession (barrister). The DM even rules that his 5 ranks in Diplomacy and Sense Motive give him two synergy bonuses...

    D&D Economics

So, in a discussion that involved the Leadership feat, an attempt to use followers to run a shipping cartel on the side, the DMG2 business rules, and the equipment list from the PHB, one of my players and I engaged in a debate that the economy of D&D is broken. He's right to some degree, of...

    Gygax euphemisms

That wasn't what I expected. I expected more generic phrases that EGG would have used. 1) Any sentence with 'dweomercraft' in it. 2) 'Setting the milieu' 3) 'They used their expert player skills' How about other people's impressions?

    D&D 4E 4e Healing - Is This Right?

Okay, Sorry to have opened up this can of worms. I think I'm looking at this from an old AD&D perspective. If I recall correctly, the old PHB that at low levels, hit points are the ability to take damage. At higher levels, that ability to take damage is bolstered with the ability to lunge...

    D&D 4E 4e Healing - Is This Right?

It strains my suspension of disbelief. 1) "Sorry to hear you fell out of a 4th story window Mr. Aragorn. Take 2 of these and call me in the morning. Actually, you won't need to take 2 of anything or call me ..." 2) Why would anyone take up the profession of physician?

    D&D 4E 4e Healing - Is This Right?

Hey all, With the handout sheets from DDXP, I'm wondering if I've read this right -- all hp are restored by an extended rest? So no matter what level you are, you rest for the night, and poof, you have full hit points? Am I reading this correctly?

    Ranger as a Thrower

I like the idea of alternate ranger styles. I've already house-ruled a riding ranger and a skirmishing ranger, so a thrown weapons ranger would be good. I'm not sure your feat choices get the right effect across. I'd start with Point Blank Shot though.

    Turning Undead Again

Well, I saw the 4e rules for turn undead, and it's pretty close to what I wanted to do. It pushes undead away, which is close enough to a sanctuary effect. But I've cleaned up my wording, and here's what I've done. Comments? TURN OR REBUKE UNDEAD Good clerics and paladins and some neutral...

    Any house rules for appearance/comliness?

I remember the Pendragon RPG had a need function -- the higher or lower your CHA was, the more distinctive characteristics your character had -- for high CHA, it was things like flowing hair, piercing eyes, etc., and for lower CHA, it was things like hunched, clawed fingers, etc. Maybe...

    The Inverse Trek Law?

I know that we are all speculating wildly since we don't have a full 4e set of rules to judge, but I'm really unimpressed with what I've seen so far. I'm trying *very* *very* *very* hard to keep an open mind, and I will buy a copy of the core books, but the game seems to be more of a radical...

    Guns and Leather Coats

In prepping my new campaign world for an upcoming adventure path, I'm highly tempted to use items from Ptolus, as I'm going for a late period, Grimm's Fairy Tale sort of setting (imagine Van Helsing, Brothers Grimm, or Stardust). The first thing I look to is the leather coat, which also appears...

    Harn

I played a lot of Harn before 3rd edition -- in fact, I'd chat a lot with Robin and the guys at CG, and I even was a contributor on HarnManor. It's a phenomenal setting if you are shooting for realism. I'd highly recommend it for any setting for the maps alone. However, it is low fantasy, and...
