    Not Doors of Stone.

    D&D 5E (2024) Boring things that might mean something…

My first thought on 30 seconds: "Gee, that sounds a bit harsh." My second thought: "Actually, that could be kind of fun." I think my turn is over. Bye.

    D&D 5E (2024) So what's with 2024 and beyond?

From my experience, people mostly just call it "D&D" now. A larger percentage of players than every before have only played 5E, so to them 5E is just D&D. "4E" is like compact discs, 3E like cassette tapes, and AD&D like vinyl (OD&D...gramophone?) But I'm sure we old-timers will squabble and...

    Are Superhero films dying?

Good article. I have to diverge a bit from this, though: I see the problem as two, or really three-pronged - with the third being "and a few other things": 1) Marvel seemingly doesn't understand that quantity cannot replace quality. From what I've seen and read, the quality of almost...

Do We Need More Alien Contact Films & Series?

I think Invasion (on Apple) is hugely under-appreciated. People complain about its slow pacing, but for me that's a major aspect of what I like about it: the slow-burn really immerses me in the characters and plot. Unlike a lot of such films/shows, it isn't a half hour build up to the reveal of...

    D&D 5E (2024) So what's with 2024 and beyond?

I didn't know that Joe Manganiello was a type of folk. I mean...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

"Punk" is no longer punk; it has lost its teeth (and what make it punk) and has been assimilated. We can call it the Green Day Effect. This is not to say that authentic punk doesn't still exist, but that it is rather deep underground. What most consider "punk" is a pale simulacrum.

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

You kind of prove my point: "Disco" only exists as a style of House, or as flavorings of House. House itself had elements other than Disco, so it isn't quite the same thing as "Jazz" which is a living tradition. But either way...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

Yeah, I hear that - which is why I can see it as the DMG example setting, but probably not as its own book. If it does end up being the example setting, I wouldn't be surprised if they'd be doing so as a not-so-sneaky way to shoehorn Greyhawk back into the mix. This is not to say that I think...

Wheel of Time Discussion - Spoilers(with book spoilers)

Haven't been keeping up with the thread, but I haven't started season 2 yet...how is it, relative to the 1st? My overall feeling of the 1st was "pretty good, but greatly marred by shoddy effects." It was better than I feared, but worse than I hoped...and I felt optimistic it would improve. But...

Has anyone else seen The creator?

Messy and a bit disappointing. It was good but not great, and the preview made it look potentially great - in the "new SF" tradition of Inception, Interstellar, Ex Machina, and Arrival. But it is a big step (or two) behind those. The visuals are great, and I was pleasantly surprised with the...

D&D General Dungeons & Dragons Sneak Peek at Gameholecon: 50th Anniversary Adventure, Rod of Seven Parts, The Endless Stair, Tsojcanth, Barrier Peaks?

Well, I think any of Greyhawk, the Dale Lands (of the FR), or Nentir Vale would work well...in that order of likelihood, imo. But I'm guessing that Nentir Vale will never make it back as either the example setting in the DMG or its own setting book...maybe in some kind of setting or adventure...

They could also do a focus on a region, like the Greyhawk environs, with some detail on the city itself and the larger world only sketched out.

It also sounds like the core three are going to be huge, if all are "expanded." So I'm guessing we'll see another price hike...maybe $69.95 a piece? Ouch. Or maybe due to mass printing, they'll keep it at $59.95. I still remember the 3E books starting at $20 a piece...that's about $36 today.
