D&D General Why grognards still matter

And I thought I just came up with that term! (see post right after yours)

D&D General Why grognards still matter

I dunno, people often have nostalgia for things they haven't experienced: see "Stranger Things," which was created by Millenials about Gen-Xers. I suppose we could fine-tune and differentiate between "lived nostalgia" and..."retro nostalgia?" I love a lot of funk and fusion from the 70s, but...

D&D General Teased Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Supplement Crosses Magic: the Gathering and D&D

Hmm. So it could be digital only, like the supplements they put out a decade ago or so. But, it also makes sense as a hardcover. I sense that WotC is fishing for more worlds, and with the departure of (can't remember his name) may be less likely to go with new ones, and more likely to go with...

D&D General Teased Lorwyn-Shadowmoor Supplement Crosses Magic: the Gathering and D&D

I've read a bit of this thread early on, but is it confirmed that this is actually going to be a setting book ala Theros and Ravnica? or is it TBD what format this takes?

D&D General Why grognards still matter

I sort of see it like the older D&D players version of slurs that have been reclaimed and are used in a humorous, self-mocking sort of way. But I guess I don't take such matters as seriously as some do.

Certainly, sir. And of course (as I tired to make clear), the categorizations are just a bit of fun and rather silly. I mean, I think Luke Gygax is chronologically Master level, but gets honorary Grandmastery. I suppose anyone who was playing D&D before the AD&D books game out probably gets...

D&D General Why grognards still matter

It is weird how me saying "we're still at the table" is translated as me "insisting" that grognards matter more than younger players. In actuality, if anything what I'm saying is that younger players are central, but older players aren't dead and buried and still have a not-insignificant market...

Huh? I missed this one until I saw Mistwell's reply. Those points apply - read them, then re-read what I actually wrote, ignoring your baseless assumptions. Not only is your post bordering on hateful ("you're just an old man...") but it is complete and utter hogwash. You're reading stuff into...

Yeah, that doesn't really relate to what I was getting at. At all. I think you're reading too much into what I was saying, but thanks for the life lessons.

Yes, I hear you. We Expert and Master grognards know that journeymen and apprentices aren't real grognards, but impostors. ;)

This isn't particularly useful for this conversation. I get what you're saying, though, even if it is a bit...grognardian about grognards ;)

D&D General Why grognards still matter

I didn't say anything about starting a revolution, nor am I complaining or asking WotC to pay attention to me. I'm just pointing out that grognards of different stripes, as a demographic, represent a lot of purchasing power -- especially once you go beyond the core rulebooks. They matter to...

You know, i almost went that route but decided to go more with guild hierarchy.

D&D General Why grognards still matter

Part 1: What is a Grognard? First, a new definition of grognard: It starts with anyone older than the target audience age of D&D. Now of course that is rather nebulous, but I would think the target audience is the big part of the bell-curve of current D&D players, which is probably something...
