    Innate Spell (Miracle): Focus?

Little tricky to ask, mostly because the DM isn't fully selected yet. And no, this really isn't anywhere near The Wish and The Word - at 30th, Miracle at-will mostly just means endurance runs aren't an issue, and you've always got something useful to try so long as you're not in an AMF.

    Innate Spell (Miracle): Focus?

Hey all, The Innate Spell feat (Complete Arcane) lets you burn a spell slot 8 levels higher (permanently) to get a spell-like ability at will. However, if the spell requires an expensive component, "you must use an item worth 50 times that cost as a focus". My question is this: What happens...

    [REDACTED]

Then you've mostly answered your own question, haven't you? If you're using polymorphic magic to make the familiar's physical stats irrelevant, then the only things that remain of importance are skill ranks, mental stats, and special abilities - with the skill ranks becoming progressively less...

    [REDACTED]

Casting spells to make your familiar a combat monkey is a really bad idea. See, they've got 1/2 the HP of your squishy d4 Arcanist self, and turning them into combat monkeys makes them targets - they become paper tigers. Oh yes, and Polymorph et all don't change your HP beyond the night's rest...

+X Items - Why so bad for the game?

If you build the game to expect no +X's, then when you do have +X items, your definition of "Level appropriate" needs to be thrown out the window, because all the math and playtesting it's based on is no longer valid - you'll slaughter the stuff that was level appropriate without the gear. If...

    D&D 3.x Dweomerkeeper (3.5)

Definitely can be, yes, primarily because of the abuses inherent in Supernatural Spell getting rid of GP and XP costs of spells. XP-free Wishes. It was probably *intended* just to get rid of AoO's and SR, but the way it's worded, it just turns them into 'normal' supernatural abilities...

    Permanent Buff Spell Items

Most people do, in that essentially nobody ever buys one, and when it's found in treasure, it almost always gets sold.

    Permanent Buff Spell Items

Well, consider: You're essentially planning on having the benefits of this spell up basically constantly. But you're also assuming a certain level of cheese-banning. So the simplest method would be to figure out what level of mechanical impact you actually expect the thing to have, and price...

    Permanent Buff Spell Items

That said, there are some guidelines in the SRD, but yes, must keep in mind: Oh yes, and they came from the DMG, not the PHB, so they're not intended for use by players.

    Home Security?

Antimagic Field, as a Periodic Trap, such that it encompasses the 2nd door. Of course, you'll either need to hire someone else to craft it, or you'll need to have the right domains....

    D&D 3.x How important is AC? (3.5)

AC also functions as Power Attack Resistance at higher levels - which can be very important indeed. But yes - it's one defense, which is effective against certain classes of attacks. Are there other defenses against those classes of attacks? Yes, quite a few. But like all things, it's...

    D&D 3.x D&D 3.5 ruleset, splitting Dexterity

Curiously, accuracy in melee seems to be at least partly strength-based in real life. Nobody's fully certain *why*, but strength-training and/or steroids do seem to make a batter more likely to be able to hit a baseball (bat's a melee weapon). It's why they need to do so much drug testing, there.

    Heavily Armored Dwarf, Optimization help?

Follow-up: Is this for a one-shot throw-away character (e.g., encounter NPC), or is this actually designed to be playable? The two optimize differently. For a one-shot character designed to have a little gouda, Oils of Magic Vestments+5 make sense; for a playable character, not so much.

    Heavily Armored Dwarf, Optimization help?

Let's see... If you're going to be spending Fighter Bonus Feats on Martial Study and Martial Stance, you might as well take a level in Warblade or Crusader, instead. Save you a feat, and you apparently don't mind dip-tastic builds... Any particular reason you're avoiding Full Casting?

Dimension Door - in relation to each other?

As to the OP: Not clearly specified in RAW. You go from one point to another, and you can bring others with you within limits, but specific relative arrangements aren't listed, one way or the other. *Most* DM's will judge that the same relative positions are kept (everyone moves 30 feet north...

How would these house rules affect D20?

They were called nonweapon proficiencies in previous editions. As for how this will affect your game, it depends. If the Rogue gets 8 'skill feats', the Bard 6, and so on, you're actually going to weaken the skillmonkey classes slightly - unless you make your Int bonus give you extra skill...

    traveling long distance FAST Help

Regular light horses come with both Run and Endurance. However, to get them to be able to do so continuously, you pretty much need to kill them and reanimate them - which causes them to lose the two feats.

    traveling long distance FAST Help

Let's see... six days at 8 hours/day (standard), using 'normal' movement rates (move 30 = 3 miles/hour, roughly) = 6*8*3=144 miles. Edit: Oh, wait: "on horseback" - light horse is the faster, having a move of 60, so double that - 288 miles. A cleric with the Travel domain gets Teleport as a...

What are the different body slots

The Body Slot Listing is easy to give out, and answers the first question fairly well. It also answers the second - a Brooch of Shielding is, indeed, a Brooch.
