    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

No. And if you carefully read carefully my claim was that this could be a tool for most situations. Most campaigns go over a range of landscapes, so most of the time will be outside any given landscape. Similar with creature types. Hence the ranger abilities were for a typical campaign...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

The thing is, they weren't limited to the stuff in the back of the book. As far as I understand wizards tried effectively that with D&D next, and it didn't fly.

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

Exactly, it do not cater to the same playstyle as 5ed. It changes the druid radically. It goes from the class that can solve any problem themselves to the class that can solve most problems as long as they are in a biome with an aproperiate animal type. Of course you never negotiate with an...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

So I think the core problem here is that with the current change there are no compelling mechanical reason to ever shapechange. Another thing that botheres me is that there are no mechanical effect related to what shape is chosen. A dog work is the same as a lion, work the same as an elephant...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

This is as far as I can see not in any way looking at the effect of the added abdurartion/healing capability? That was what I wondered if anyone had looked into trying to quantify. So I now have time to make a simple attempt. assuming 8 hp per spell level from cure wounds we look at a 32 buffer...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

I think they also struggled with how to handle the fact that in 5ed hp gain scales heavily with available CR, so what hp to put on the statblock was a hard choice. One thing I found weird was that the statblock do not scale at all (beyond some added abilities by level). This make me think this...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

I love his ideas, but I don't think they would work as official rules. The problem is that there are no straight forward way to rule it so that it has to make sense. Hence the flying stealthy poison biting pig is going to be a thing at too many tables that isnt really into that sort of nonsense...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

I wouldnt take that for granted. Polymorph in 5ed is tightly coupled with the wild shape in how it is formulated, so I would expect a similar rework of that if this way of handling wildshape survive the playtest.

D&D 5E (2024) The Role of the DM in One D&D

I have not heard about GM agency either before this. I find this quite intriguing. My first hunch was that this might be more about cultural streams tending toward thinking of leaders as servants and facilitators in a democratic fashion as opposed to the more autocratic view more prevalent in...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

I fully agree if the goal had only been to make a tankable wildshape. However my self healing boost suggestion was also intended to cover the complaint that there is nothing good to use spell-slots on. Barkskin with its duration, and for this purpose useless upcasting do not fill this purpose...

D&D 5E (2024) The Role of the DM in One D&D

I think D&D as an entry game to the hobby should have strong adherence to written rules, and rules that covers a lot of cases. This increases the chances of a consistently not bad experience, and the wide range of options make it likely you can find something you find fun. I am convinced much...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

Some ideas: Add proficiency bonus to AC. Double the effect of healing on self when in beast form, and allow casting abdurations/healing as a bonus action. (This might fix the spell slot issue mentioned by @Chaosmancer) Gain inspiration when wildshaping - optional rule this can be replaced by DM...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

In AD&D 2ed shape change wasn't unlocked before level 7. In 3.5 it didn't unlock before level 5. In 4ed it unlocked at 1st level, but didn't give any significant boosts beyond being a requisite for using certain not very strong powers. Moreover in 2ed you healed 10-60% of your damage when...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

I am curious - for those unhappy that the hulk megatank build for druids are gone - How would you feel if that was instead moved to the barbarian class, as an upgraded totem warrior/beast subclass? That is you are locked down to a single animal, not having the versatility of the druid. However...

    D&D 5E (2024) New Wild Shape

Some observations: Barbarian is the class that was designed to be the hulk. That they made druid effectively the hulk class was likely not intended. This is the thing I believe they are trying to change by removing temp hp. Rouge is the class that is designed to be the ultimate...

D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

The problem is even stopping selling it will make it more prominent. It would be a sought after object on torrent sites. The collectors can start proudly display their expensively bought hard copy. The anti woke will publicise it as another example of censorship, raising awareness (check out...

D&D General Why Unbalanced Combat Encounters Can Enhance Your Dungeons & Dragons Experience

And this is the crux of the matter. You and likely everyone here are then not running naturalistic. You are putting in place safety guards against player character death that replaces balancing (while still relying on the same kind of thinking that "balancing" is based on). However while I...

D&D General Why Unbalanced Combat Encounters Can Enhance Your Dungeons & Dragons Experience

Is it really? No, I don't think anyone intentionally murders their player's characters. But when you decided 3 sessions ago that an adult red dragon moved into this particular cave 100 years ago, and the party failed their dc10 history check at the library to discover that fact - who are we to...

D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

(I think this is a dangerous tangent. There are actually strong arguments that can be made that commercial entities no longer wanting to make their works available should release those works to public domain. And bringing in that seem like would be derailing this completely off topic..)

D&D General PETITION: Acknowledge Hasbro's hurtful content (Black orcs, Asian yellow orcs, Native American red orcs)—through an Amendatory Bundle [+ thread]

Only action point 2 sound reasonable to me. The rest seem strongly counterproductive. Reducing the paywall for the original as suggested in 3 will make more people likely to get curious and get it. Making revisions, public apologies, educational material and other such actions as suggested in...
