If most DMs prefer low-mid levels...why have levels?

I think that many DMs (myself included), prefer low to mid level gaming because of the relative ease of prep. For a party that is level 1-10, it's pretty easy to have a handle on what they can do and what they can handle. After that it becomes tougher, with more prep needed, and more spells...

What's the big deal with point buy?

I don't like point buy. It's just doesn't feel like D&D to me. The method I use in my games is 3 sets of 4d6, drop the lowest, arrange as you wish. You get one floating point that you can assign anywhere, but you cannot use it to raise an ability above 18. It works for us.

"Try Castles & Crusades", they say. But no one's playing it!

Yes, but he doesn't give enough information to make his statements relevant. We'd need to see a list of the publishers that he's comparing TLG to, as well as the numbers of C&C sold to make it mean anything. The game is clearly successful for TLG or they wouldn't have made a second printing...

Michael Bay's TRANSFORMERS - More Pics!

Yuck. Megatron looks like crap. Looks like another rental to me.

    PC Creation: Pointbuy or Roll?

I can't stand point buy. Just seems lame, and a kind of a crutch for people who can't handle the occasional "crappy" character that can result from rolling. I like the excitement of watching the rolls come in as the character forms.

Help me choose! "Shackled City" or "Age of Worms"?

I'm a player in an AOW campaign and I'm having a great time, so I'd say go with the AOW!

I've never played Midnight, but the trailer didn't look half bad.

Sword of Truth mini series' optioned.

Why is THIS getting optioned when we have a great series, A Game of Thrones, written by a former TV writer who could help bring it the small screen, sitting around untouched?

Mike Mignola's Screw-On Head on SciFi?

Pretty funny stuff, although, as a Hellboy fan, I'm probably a little bit biased. I thought the voices were good, the plot was funny and made sense (well, as much as could be expected), and it was entertaining. Make sure you take the survey if you liked the show so we can get more!

Why _DON'T_ You Buy Dragon Magazine?

It got to the point that I was only buying Dragon for the cartoons and the Gary Gygax column. I realized that without KODT, the toons weren't to my liking and the Gygax column wasn't worth it alone, so I stopped. Honestly, I don't think that you could lure me back, at least not without some...

Who Else Has Never Been To Gen Con?

Never been, although I have been to Origins many times. I remember really, really, REALLY wanting to go in hish school and being bummed that I couldn't make it. Somehow I missed the memo on the major convention that took place in Columbus, lol. I intend to go to Gencon someday, although its...

    Thoughts on Kalamar

I've run 4 campaigns in Kalamar, although I've messed with things quite a bit to make it fit the kinds of campaigns I want to run. I highly recommend it because it is a highly detailed world that is well thought out and organized. It has a good support line and the low magic style really gives...

So how long have YOU been playing D&D?

15 years, and it scares the heck out of me that it's been that long. I can remember the summer when I started like it was yesterday. I was 15 and a buddy that I worked with got me started with Hero Quest (is that game still around?) and had me playing D&D by the end of the summer. I'm 30...

Does a publisher/author's interaction here influence your purchases?

With so many publishers printing so many products I really don't feel that I'm missing out by passing over anything written by GMSkarka. My game has been running along just fine for several years without his help/insight and I imagine that it will continue to do so. Now, if he works on D&D 4.0...

Does a publisher/author's interaction here influence your purchases?

Speaking for myself, I won't buy anything that has your name on it. Doesn't mean that I don't have some things that you collaborated on because I'm not anal enough to check the credits (maybe I should start), but anything with your name on the cover gets dropped back on the shelf ASAP.

Gamers wanted or group needing experinced player

We have an opening due to a player that had to drop out due to personal/family issues. I run a modified Kingdoms of Kalamar setting every other Saturday from 1-6. It's a mix of 3.0-3.5. Good to neutral characters, they just now hit 2nd level. This is the fourth or fifth campaign I've played...
