I am beginning to appreciate some of the design decisions of 4E.

Maybe could be a good idea, for the community of players in general, create a database of pre-made NPC of any level, even better with few notes on tatcics, and standard equipment. On the long road, it could be create a very solid database, if well handled.

D&D 4E Switching from 4E to Pathfinder. Conversion advice?

First and foresmost, take a look into the Paizo Boards. IIRC, a lot of people there converted most 3.5 to PF, maybe you can find what you need. A question on warfoged: why the 3.5 version is not good? And: take a look here. You can use these alternative racial traits to make split PF Elves in...

I am beginning to appreciate some of the design decisions of 4E.

I played BECMI and AD&D 2e too. I admit that my use of "classic" was inaccurate, but in that context I guess is enough clear... I meant "I prefer the 3e way".

IMHO, after a certain level, you are lucky to just REACH the villain. The villain will be followed by a crapload of minions, summoned monsters, slaves, and cohorts.. If you are in his lair (likely) there will be traps and other bad stuff to face. Not considering clones, simulacra, and simple...

I am beginning to appreciate some of the design decisions of 4E.

Actually, there is a table with guidelines in the monster creation rules. When I don't have enough time, I use it in this way: I select a CR appropriate monster, then slap on it a "new skin" and appropriate Supernaturals to fit the guidelines. So the same line of the table could be a Drow...

Are you really forced to do it? You could prepare some spells, and go Schroedinger on the rest.

    Classes in the APG

About the inquisitor, perhaps this thread could help. You can re-think classes in the same way. As an example, for an oriental themed campaing, Paladins are excellent Sohei and Cavaliers excellent Samurai, and so on.

    Fighter vs. Barbarian

Swim is Str based. Barbarians ARE good swimmers. You take the rage power to be an outrageously good swimmer.

    Fighter vs. Barbarian

So try out either a Beast Totem+ Ferocious Bite or a Fiendish Totem Barbarian.. add in Terrifying Howl. +8 Constitution means 80 HP at leel 20... but his is on top of d12 + standard constitution. And DR of 5/-, 10/- or features and rage powers able to absorb damage. In top of powers to absorb...

    Fighter vs. Barbarian

Could you please bring examples of the mythological roots? I agree with you that criticism is the base of improvement. Nevertheless, mine was just an observation based on the fact that you seemed, reading this and other posts (my mistake perhaps) that you considered useless a lot of things that...

    Fighter vs. Barbarian

Even if I like a lot the game, I agree with your analysis. Little semi-patch fo the monk INA: there is a druidic spell able to improve natural attacks by two steps. An enlarged monk wit that buff could improve the Unarmed Strike by three steps. More fun is is four wind and has vital strike -...

    Fighter vs. Barbarian

Sorry, but represent rage powers with rage swimming only is asinine. One both core and APG are filled with good rage powers. Bonus to maneuvers and strenght checks, maneuvers + damage, pounce, mount boosting, control effects based on terrain and fear, natural weapons, anti caster feats...

Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder PC Races list

Campaign specific at best, but Bestiary 1 has Merfolk too.

    Fighter vs. Barbarian

In Core, I was slightly underwhelmed by barbarians, but with bonuses to grapple, knockback, sudden strike, and the awesome, awesome strenght surge you can make a good barbarian, exspecially if you focus on the grapple and power attack lines. And don't understimate superstition. And the fact...

The classes at "high level" (14th)

I was thinking to change casting time of most spells, barring damaging ones. ut that would mean a too dramatical departure from previous incarnation of the game, so I see why they didn't made changes of this level. High level concentration is no enough difficult IMHO. BUt aybe I'm too much old...

The classes at "high level" (14th)

Schmoe, remember that every bonus to the attacks goes to CMB as well. Bards, Cavaliers, buffs, rage, weapon trainings, smart uses of flanks and tactics raises dramatically the change to deliver the maneuver. Moreover, on the "second feat needed": you need just Improved Trip to trip. Greater...

    Classes in the APG

My experience is more similar to Kaisoku's one. +1 to what he said about Rogues. My only beef in PF is that designers should have given Hide in Plain Sight to the Rogue as rogue talent.. but is enough a dip in Shadowdancer for that.

    Go go fightan magic, goooo.

A player of mine played the previous version - very fun but fragile. The new version is better IMHO - the weapon is more versatile, even if you must spend point on it, and the "to hit" is better because of updated mechanics and a nice arcana helping it. He plays Magus 8 / Eldricht Knight 5...

The classes at "high level" (14th)

+1. I can see that, depending on personal tastes, one could consider PF changes not too much.. but discrepancy has been lowered.

    Classes in the APG

Barring one single order, is quite pessimistic think that cavalier abilities are mounted-combat only. yeah, is a significant part, but is not the only part. Moreover, if one is afraid of enclosed spaces, there is the old "trick" used for paladins too: gnome or halfling cavalier, and you take...
