D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

For one, you should explain me why being a massive nerd on dragons and outsiders makes me better at diplomacy thanks to this spell. Explain me what happens in universe, please.

But is a great example of ruling that inhibits roleplaying as stated above. Doesn't kill it but doesn't help. Or so it was perceived, and the game failed. For a reason that is not linked to presentation or setting. And more importantly - why is a bad thing wether for a well placed spell, or a...

It was basically gone, they named a skill substitution after it. Is nowhere near the same spell. Please be honest with me and yourself. Same thing for Command. Also what you say about 3e skills is incorrect. A lot of basic stuff is within the 15-20 range which with a few levels and a decent stat...

D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

Sorry but at this point I have to ask - are you doing this intentionally? Could you please reread the original post? Thanks. The initial answer was about framing the "rule clarity" as the perceived issue, while the issue is what and what not the rules describe. Some rules for specific spells and...

Did you read my original post? I encourage you to do so.

Since there is no 4e SRD, not really actually. No OGL, remember? OGL bad! But as an example, I can think about Suggestion - it was completely transformed into "make an arcana check for diplomacy" which is horrible to say the least.

Not necessarily. A lot of stuff that was beyond "movement/damage + movement/effect" was trimmed because it didn't fit the mold and wasn't made for rituals either. And those were rules too, which 4e failed to reproduce, intentionally or not. This is a massive limitation and framing it as "not...

D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

I cannot address all of that but I can answer this, because I kinda connected to what I said about the Marilith, and how the supposedly "useless" spell like connect with the movement and obscurement possibilities the monster has. I think here instead that there are a lot of assumption about...

D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

I overall had a playable 3e up to epics (past 35th) but I am interested in it for several reasons 1) I am try to write this down to make it playable for different playstyles 2) Some spell should be rare because it makes more sense in-universe or the world would be different 3) hunting for...

D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

Is not a matter of numbers but of the mindset behind the rule writing, being it style (which is frankly secondary to me) and overall (forgive me if I use such brutal oversimplification, but for lack of a better vocabulary) "gamisms" or perceived such.

D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

You see here? Are you sure that was the actual issue? To me is more like the sterile format and the elimination of any spell and effect that was vague but great for the play and RP - this is what they said, to my understanding. Which if this is the case, is not the same thing. You are framing it...

None is talking about your experience. Which is the main issue for 50% of the thread, assuming personal experience as universal, and not accepting that other people's are not inherently irrational, wrong, not giving the rules a chance etc. I presume this plus PF2e are a good start. Thanks.

That's what PF2e did unless I am mistaken. Is something I wish to implement for myself but I admit the effort will be monumental. Still a great idea.

D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

This is not what people said tho. None lamented the lack of "RP rules" but instead lamented the lack of rules that facilitated immersion in their gameworld, as direct type of rule writing (don't let me use the D word again) or just disruption of setting, class feature and such.

First and foremost no, adding 2 levels of class is not nearly a significant effort in any way, shape and form. It's a less then 5 minutes work in this case at least, and can last for every Marilith since. Secondly, remember that this was just to show that not only the 5e marilith is nothing like...

I think I will keep doing math because I passed elementary school. Also that's another strawman because all those classes and rules at once is way more complexity than adding 2 levels of fighter and use a dragon magazine mini-feat chain of two to add a parry mechanic. I encourage you to do...

D&D General New Interview with Rob Heinsoo About 4E

I have several issues with this. First and foremost, A.D. is not exactly useless because while preparing the corpses is laborious, the reanimation itself is a standard action, on a monster that has at will teleports and Projected Image. Which is an amazing spell that you dismiss in a completely...
