    Except you run out of gas fast. As I said I've stress tested up to 12th and 6 encounters plus boss fight 5.5 or 5m0 X5 deadly and I think we went up to ten encounters. The attrition based model basically doesn't work. Unless players blow all their spell slots throwing direct danage...

    ENworld wont agree on anything and everyone thinks theyre right. Mostly out of touch as well. Generally we skew older and have played multiple editions. That's probably sub 10% if not 5% of the player base now.

    They use beyond now for playtesting. Self selection hard core players who lean towards more complexity/power. If anything kills 5.5 it's losing the casuals. Or the DMs.

    Its a attempt to make others play their way imho. You can get a game that does XYZ you like good luck finding players though. Even if your D&D sells 90% less than WotC D&D it's probably X10 bigger than your preferences.

    Those old school basic fighter pit modern ones to shame lol. 1d8+3 damage is very useful when opponents have a lot less HP. And depending on game it may be a lot more than 1d8+3.

    So would I. There's other spells for fodder clearing. CO being less bad as Fireball nit a bad description lol. Without sorcerer to manipulate it it probably falls off hard. I may take CO on certain classes via feat eg warlocks, cleric druids as they lack anything equivalent eg no fireball...

    Quickest we will see 6E is 5 or 6 years. Say 5.5 peaks early eg year 1, two years to realize it's not getting better, 3 years to do 6E. Revisions won't work forever eventually 5E will bore people. Its the when I'm not sure about.

    3 will likely do it but you kinda of proves the point how anemic they are. 3 AoE or multiple target control spells would probably shut tge encounter down. Single target Save or sucks not such a fan.

    I'm leaning towards danage spells scaling for free. Polymorph would not. Damage spells haven't been good since 2E as they overhauled saves. You still have large variances in good and bad saves. Hell target into, cha then wisdom with spells in that order. 5E casters basically suck at...
